Amlodipine
Anyone put on Amlodipine? It was prescribed to me but I'm debating whether or not I trust another pharmaceutical drug.

I take it only if my systolic BP is over 140. It gives me swollen legs. I take metoprolol tartrate only if my heart rate is over 60. If systolic is in the lower 120's or lower I don't take anything.

so, you can go on it intermittently? My big concern about taking it at this point s that I have a bunch of testing coming up and I do not want to mask what's really going on. I went to emergency for the 2nd time last night due to insane systolic numbers and I was told I am a very healthy person, so there is an underlying issue and they have to get to the root of what is causing the blood pressure spikes. I fear that I will be masking the real root of the problem if I take drugs before they determine what's going on.
Hubby was on Amlodipine for years. After HA and bypass surgery, they switched him to low dose metoprolol. Not sure why. His BP runs 110/60 ish.
Thank you Shelby for your response. I talked to the pharmacist yesterday about the side effects and there are a LOT. The only thing is, as she pointed out; the drug companies have to cover their butts, so they list everything. Not everyone that takes the drug will experience all or even any of them. However, both the emergency room doctor and the pharmacist warned me that I would probably get swollen legs and the drug could cause light-headedness. Did your husband experience any side effects? I recognize we are all different, but I am strongly opposed to pharmaceuticals and basically told my doctor that if it was a matter of life and death, I would take it; but otherwise, I really want to try more natural remedies.
Congratulations, by the way with respect to his BP now. That's awesome. I was there at one point not too long ago.
You are able to take it only when your BP rises? Not daily?
Hello for my blood pressure, I have been taking Amlodipine 10mg and Losartan 100mg daily for ten plus years. No issues at all and they have worked great in keeping my blood pressure in check. I now take 12.5mg of Metropolol at night to hopefully help with my chronic but benign arrhythmias: PVCs and PACs.
I wish you great health!

I'd like to invite @jwooders3 to this discussion as they also recently discussed being prescribed amlodipine as well and they can perhaps share their experience since posting on this medication.
anyone that can contribute to the conversation would be great. I am leery of taking the medication since I am being tested for a number of things and I want the tests to really get to the root of what's happening with my blood pressure. There is clearly an underlying cause for it and if I mask it with medication, I fear getting on that same merry-go-round I was on before with taking several drugs to combat side effects of other drugs...
