Hi kayabbott, (your online name, takes me 4 mins)
I’m so glad of being a professional research scientist & your doctoral dissertation (how long it takes me of writing this) and lots of publications.

I was close to become the top manager of a cities local government. I was close to my 2 year degree (I can’t remember the name over my 4 year univ). One class - but that morning that bicycle locked - not from my legs - hit the top on the left of my head. Everything changes. Forcing retirement; can’t swim as my exercise anymore; memory of my family’s decades ago is gone; no more driving including 40+ years being a MC’ist; and on… BUT….

I love Jesus Christ and He helps me to a different life and I’m alive; my family - my great wife (for the last 41+ years); my son & daughter and their marriage from diff states; brothers, uncle, aunts, and cousins is fantastic. My wife has step-ed up to go our family from a state with all of us, weekly.

All this was easy as a normal=brain and took care of money costs, housing cost, taxes, traveling - and I was the driver to our family’s state, fixing or paying our needs of our house, made pretty good of what we needed.. and on…

My reading is gone; my understanding and hear is 80% gone. Taking numbers is actually pretty good; my dad did it and it was part of my born. I lost of some of this anyway. My life changed and 12 years ago in August 20’s, one weeks before our love of marriage. Over these years, I couldn’t walk or cutting our grass or eating decent (sp?) food; it took times; some are back to do easy stuff so my wife doesn’t need at our house and let her take her teaching job.

Oppps.. the use of my iPad takes way more time than my Windows PC, but I can’t go to my PC cause it’s on the top of our house. For now. my back has to fix-it as this time takes. It was not a TBI accident; I fell down in my garage, falling down 9n my rearend. Physically, I lost so much inside or outside things, but last week, I went to this hospital and trying to fix-it. I was 5 days at that hospital and my Doc takes me 3mths or more.

I lost a few memories with my TBI, but I also learned a lot on how the brain works. I fell rollerblading, 31 years ago (now I bike, with a helmet). TBIs hit one emotionally and physically. That is great that you have family and a good emotional support group. It takes some work to figure out what one can still do, what interests and exercises. A shame that swimming is out for you; I don't swim because of swimmers ear.

The main issue I have a problem handling, is my fear about falling again, my own personal PTSD. Because of that, even though a bike didn't have anything about my injury, I can not get on a bicycle at all. I tried a year after my injury happened, but it was a no-go. I'm planning to buy a recumbent bicycle this summer, thinking that even if I fell, I could protect my "brain" for a 2 foot fall.

Dear @ricj ,
Falling down was added by the 2 year accident at my garage, 10 years after my TBI bicycle accident.

My balance-problem is huge and just I feel down on my back - not my head… I bought a bicycle for use 8n a room and, thankfully I don’t even want or need a helmet 🙂

Today, I am trying to work-back from this doctor last week, sitting down, staying at my hospital 5 days, taking new meds - including my anti-seizure - for pain. I hope it works better and get back - physically - to walk with zero pain again.

Thx,
Greg D.
