Dayvigo - Anyone tried this for insomnia?

Posted by ripley @ripley, Sep 30, 2023

Almost two years ago I suddenly developed chronic insomnia. I've been taking 100mg Trazodone and 2.5mg Melatonin which usually helps me fall asleep. But I wake every 1-2 hours at night and struggle to get back to sleep. My sleep dr seems to only suggest meds with the side effect of sleep walking with no awareness of it the next day. Dayvigo is the latest drug she suggests, with that side effect. I've read mixed reviews, with some relating scary side effects like sleep paralysis, scary dreams, etc. and for many this drug doesn't help at all. If you have experience with this med, I'd like to hear from you.

I have been a chronic insomnia for years and tried everything but ambien was the worst. Sleep walking and complete blackouts once I even drove my car and had no idea what happened to me or anyone else. In any case I now take temazepam with trazodone and I get 5-8 hours sleep.

Welcome @sleepyinca, I don't have any experience with Dayvigo but from what I've read you could be having an allergic reaction.

"A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing. This is not a complete list of possible side effects."

Have you discussed the itching with your doctor?

What is your dose of mirtazapine? I tried 7.5mg one night and slept well but was sleepy and tired for 3 days afterwards, so never took it again. Thanks.

I had the exact same reaction. As a last resort I tried Dayvigo and it works consistently for 4 hours, then I fall asleep again fairly easily. I only take half the low dose (5mg) and let it dissolve under my tongue. I fall asleep very quickly. Side effects are head aches but worth it to resolve my long time sleep problem.

I also think this sounds like an allergic reaction. When Prozac first came out I tried it, best antidepressant I've ever used. But I developed massive hives all over my body. For the next 20 years pharmacists wouldn't record Prozac as an allergy because they said I couldn't be allergic to it! Now they record it. You can be allergic to anything, pharmacists should know better.

I started Davigo 10mg 9 months ago. It helped me fall asleep, got about 4 hours sleep, then not so great. But the intense dreams in the latter part of the night, ie early morning, we're insane. Not scary, but very vivid and like being in a kooky movie. So I decreased the dose to 5mg, and this reduced the dreams significantly. Sleep was only so-so. I was considering going off it as it wasn't working as well, and it's expensive. Then, in June, about 7-8 months after starting it I became extremely depressed. The kind where you lay in bed wondering what's the point, no future. After a couple of weeks of this I suspected the Dayvigo may be causing this. It does alter neurotransmitters which affect mood. So I stopped it completely. I started feeling better in a few days, soon I was back to normal. I did find some studies that indicate this could happen but it's a fairly new drug, needs more studying.
Overall, I wasn't as impressed as I hoped to be. Ive finally settled on old-fashioned Zopiclone. I take 3.75mg every night, occasionally 5mg. It does leave me with some morning drowsiness but coffee helps that.
Hope this helps.

I tried it and went immediately into sleep paralysis. I couldn’t tell if I was sleeping or not. But couldn’t move my body for awhile. Very scary stuff. Stay away from it !
