What helps improve osteoporosis without medication?

Posted by imatine @imatine, Dec 4, 2020

Hello, did anyone here try to heal from osteoporosis away from all the prescribed medications we all know of? Did you try following a specific diet? Excercise? Meditation, etc. ? Thank you

@windyshores

@mlwh and @alif that book was written in 2016. Lani Simpson has since gone on meds. I believe Tymlos and then possibly Evenity but check with her.

Windyshores, this is a thread titled, "What helps improve osteoporosis without medication" . I'm not sure why you feel the need to call Lani's work into question. If you want to listen to her most recent seminars, and join her Masterclass in April, that will cost you $1000. You might consider starting with her book for a fraction of the price. As someone who has actually stopped my bone loss and improved my density scores over the last 5 years, I wonder if you might let me have my voice. If you ask Lani if BMD can be improved without medication, her answer is, and I am quoting here, "yes, no, and maybe." SO maybe consider that it is possible.

I absolutely agree with you, and I think people should really consider their family history. This is an individual choice that is for sure. Thank you so much for the comment.

Genetic studies are also useful. I have no cancer markers, which is helpful.

@mlwh hi how many markers are there for breast cancer? Do you get them all tested? Which doctor would be the best one to order them? Thanks a lot!

Oh dear. I had my genetic assessment done through a study at my clinic. We gave our saliva in exchange for the results used in the study. I was simply told I had no cancer markers at all. I know next to nothing beyond that. Sorry not to be helpful!

It's alright, thank you! I signed up recently for a genetic testing via genoME, free of charge. Curious what it will reveal. I like to know everything there is about my risks. A neighbor's daughter in her early 40s was diagnosed with bc recently and tested +ve for brca. It turns out the mom, my neighbor is also +ve just hasn't developed bc yet. So what do one know?

@mlwh I have taken masterclasses with Lani Simpson and read her book years ago. Keith McCormick, author of "A Whole Body Approach to Osteoporosis" and "Great Bones" also took medications (Forteo and alendronate). This does not take away from the work of either of them, but it might be helpful for some to know. I am curious if there is another expert that you know of who did not end up on medications. I am sorry to offend you and understand where you are coming from.

I have often posted about doctors overmedicating osteopenia or even early osteoporosis. It is wonderful that you have stopped your bone loss naturally. Others can benefit from your suggestions.

For more severe osteoporosis unfortunately there are no magic answers, but I think this thread is more for those who are not yet in a dire situation. I have 7 spinal fractures as a result of cancer meds.

Thank you, windyshores. I am so sorry for what must be so very painful and disheartening. I know we each must find our own path to health. I find it really frustrating trying to get testing I believe I need and sometimes feel like it’s hopeless. But finally, my results speak for my efforts, and I am lucky. My baby sister, 8 years younger, passed last year with osteoporosis that left her with one leg almost 2” shorter than the other. She was afraid to walk because she broke so often and in so many places. I know how horrible life can be. Hugs to you for your efforts at clarity in this group.

@mlwh and @windyshores glad you two sorted that little dust up out. I just wanted to say I have found Lani Simpson and Keith McCormack both to be very useful whether you are trying to be only natural or you are only taking meds or you are trying to do both. I consulted with Lani both on my DXA results and on "what the heck to do now that I know my DXA results are real". She was quite helpful. I appreciated that she was not dogmatic about natural vs meds. I did not want to pay for advice from someone who could only see one side of things.

@awfultruth exactly: they are providers who will suggest meds if needed and have a lot of knowledge if meds are not yet needed, and won't suggest them prematurely.

I was influenced by Lani Simpson because at the time she was contemplating Tymlos and I also got the idea to do Evenity after Tymlos from a patient in her masterclass. My docs did not suggest it.

I do need to pay more attention to the title of threads!!

Hi there. I took a screenshot of my doctors website. You can Google it and read all the information about him. I absolutely love Dr Bazzan, many many years of experience, working with the best in the bio, identical hormone field. He does do telemedicine I can attest that he knows what he’s talking about. He is associated with Jefferson University, Hospital, and Philadelphia.

@nme1985 If you don't mind sharing your age, would love to know as my doc mentioned something about age and hormone option. Also, what was your Dexa when you started this. Love it that your friend improved in a year!
