Vaginal atrophy

Posted by HomeAgainLA @llynch17056, Sep 21, 2023

TO THE LADIES ONLY: As I got older I started developing vaginal atrophy. Then I started developing open splits on my labia that were extremely painful. I went to urgent care one weekend and was prescribed vaginal estrogen medicine. It did the trick but I didn’t want to use estrogen. I went to a GYN that recommending organic coconut oil to use externally only. This was a few years ago and it has worked perfectly. I have never had another problem. At all. I wanted to pass along a natural inexpensive solution to vaginal atrophy.

I’ve been reading here about coconut oil. Doesn’t it cause your crotch to smell like coconuts? Just curious if others would notice it?

I’ve been using it for a couple of years. I use a very small amount. I put a small dab in my hand and rub my hands together and wipe my labia with my hand. I have never noticed any coconut smell. I haven’t tested that with oral sex, but there’s no smell in usual situations. Not in my clothes either.

Okay. I may try it. I don’t think I have dryness, but I want to stay moisturized. I’ve just resumed having sex after a good while and want to maintain.

Honestly, it is organic, healthy, human grade for cooking and completely non-irritating, so it might be quite pleasant for oral sex or regular sex.

That would be ideal. I didn’t find anything in the stores, as I wanted a lubricant that was a hybrid of water based and part silicone. Nobody had it and its out of stock at many stores like Walmart, Target, etc. I didn’t have time to order online. The hybrid seems hard to find. The coconut oil is much easier to find.

I also suffer from vaginal atrophy and recently started having spotting…an ultrasound was done last May and all was good but it came back again.. I have an appointment for this soon and I’m familiar with the test he wants to do and frankly it’s awful and invasive…since I have dealt with cancer twice they are quick at jumping to conclusions but I understand because I do it too…

@frouke Going back to this earlier discussion, and as I'm catching up on it, I wonder if the atrophy could be due to lichen sclerosus (particularly, "differentiated"), with which I am especially familiar with lately.

It may not be, but in the interest of helping out with additional possibilities / information, I would only hope to help as you address this development.

I hope it is identified and managed to your comfort level. Best wishes.

For me, my vaginal atrophy has been solved cheaply, easily, permanently, healthily and painlessly. In my case, coconut oil did it and continues to after years.

@llynch17056 - Wonderful!

Best wishes...began wondering whether coconut oil would be recommended by my Gynec Oncologist now!

Thanks!
