Ladies: How are you managing vaginal atrophy as you age?
TO THE LADIES ONLY: As I got older I started developing vaginal atrophy. Then I started developing open splits on my labia that were extremely painful. I went to urgent care one weekend and was prescribed vaginal estrogen medicine. It did the trick but I didn’t want to use estrogen. I went to a GYN that recommending organic coconut oil to use externally only. This was a few years ago and it has worked perfectly. I have never had another problem. At all. I wanted to pass along a natural inexpensive solution to vaginal atrophy.

I’m using the estring. To get my insurance to pay for it I had to try the cream and vaginal suppositories first.
I’m so grateful that organic coconut oil works perfectly for me, safe, cheap and effective.
Pelvic floor therapy with magnetic dilators along with estrogen can help relieve dryness and pain. You can google pelvic floor exercises on google as well.
I think I’ll stick with organic coconut oil.
So glad that glad that works for you. For me it is bhrt.
Just left my Dr's today and my vulva issues have mostly been resolved but I still have dryness and itching and redness. Since I have had breast cancer I am scared to use vaginal estrogen but I am going back on Vagifem which worked spectacularly before I was diagnosed and told to get off of it.
Took my first dose today and will use it for 5 days vs 7 to get to maturation then twice weekly and will see if I can even try using it only once a week. They are saying now that using vaginal estrogen does not raise your risk of recurrence or death however if you are on a AI (aromatase inhibitor) you can't use it. Since I am not using them I will cross my fingers and see if it helps enough to warrant the tiny risk.
Did you try organic coconut oil? It cures my lesions, itching and dryness. I use it everyday after my shower. My GYN won’t prescribe hormones, but this worked perfectly, so I am 100% satisfied.
I also used a product called RepaGyn, my gynaecologist recommended it, it comes in suppositories and you insert it into the vagina…best used at bedtime and wear a thin pantyliner during the day, it doesn’t contain any harmones and you don’t need a prescription, the doctor referred to it as a spa for the vagina, but seriously it is quite nice afterwards.
Thank you. I’d rather use coconut oil and not wear a panty liner. Just saying.
I hear you, 🙂
