First 400th Donors

Aug 11, 2021 | Lauren Brown | @laurenbrown

The Mayo Clinic Blood Donor Program is proud to congratulate our first ever, 400th donors.

Mark Korinek and Dave Johnson, long-time friends who enjoy running together, have been keeping each other accountable and competing with one another to see who could reach the 400th blood donation milestone first. We won’t play favorites and say who did, but both reached this momentous milestone within just a couple of months of one another earlier this spring. The Blood Donor Program gifted each donor with a customized embroidered jacket that they can use through various seasons for their many mornings spent running.

These two friends light up the Blood Donor Program every time they stop in. In addition to their many donations, their infectious smiles, jokes, and humor bring happiness to everyone’s day. Our staff is always pleased to see one of them walking through the door.

In honor of their upcoming milestones, the Blood Donor Program held a community challenge this spring in their honor. It was titled, “400 More” with the hopes of bringing in 400 more donations to celebrate their milestone. Although this challenge did not quite reach its initial goal, over 70 members of the community—friends, family members, and colleagues—stepped up to donate in honor of Mark and Dave.

Collectively, Mark and Dave have given more than 800 donations to our program, helping upwards of 2,400 lives. We extend our most heartfelt gratitude to these two donors for the great time they have spent being selfless for our patients and the Rochester area community.
