In June, Mayo Clinic Alzheimer’s Disease Researchers unveiled a new artificial intelligence tool that helps clinicians identify nine different types of dementia. The tool is called StateViewer, and it helps clinicians interpret the results of Fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) PET scans.
Tool analyzes these PET scan data to help physicians diagnose:
- Alzheimer’s Disease
- Frontotemporal dementia including the following subtypes:
- Corticobasal syndrome
- Lewy body dementia
- Posterior cortical atrophy
- Progressive supranuclear palsy
The tool is still early in its use. Researchers hope it will one day help doctors with early diagnosis. For now, they plan to expand the tools’ use and will evaluate its performance in clinical settings. For more information on StateFinder, the Mayo Clinic News Network has a helpful article which describes it in more detail.
