Your best tips for raw food safety post transplant.

Posted by jolinda @jolinda, Aug 3, 2019

Does anyone have good guidelines for eating raw food post transplant. I am specifically interested if anyone remembers the things you were taught about raw fruits and veggies. As an example I was told it is ok to eat prewashed lettuce if you rewash it or that fruit with bumpy skin, like cantaloupe can't be washed well enough to avoid contaminating the fruit when cutting through it.

I have a question - What does anyone do about fresh berries?
I painfully avoid them, and choose the frozen ones. What do you do?

I use frozen also. Also worh noting that they are the ones that were picked at exactly the peak ripeness whereas fresh are picked before they are completely ripened

Good morning
My best advice honestly is never. I ate a shrimp sandwich and was so sick after. Fortunately I didn't end up in the hospital, but came very close. My advice moving forward is just don't. Don't take the chance.💗🇨🇦🍁

@athenalee what type of exercise do you do? I am one year post kidney transplant. I have been so concerned about the possibility of creating a hernia that I have only been walking. Matter of fact, after doing some significant walking I developed sciatica pain and shortened my walking time. I also have osteoporosis so I am concerned about that too. Are you able to use a small trampoline, do jumping Jack's, try to learn pickleball? Are these okay exercise ideas after transplant or are there better exercise ideas for us to work towards? Thank you!! 🙂

I am 2 years post kidney transplant and I exercise a lot. I workout 30 to 45 minutes to strt the day including 150 jumping jacks in there. Then I eat something and jog quater mile indoors. Then I get dressed and go for a 2 to 3 mile walk. I do some weight training 2 or 3 ties/week also. I used to do lots of planking but I have cut that since surgery. I have a very minor umbilical hernia which I think I gave myself from trying planking after the surgery. I did exercise a lot before I got the transplant too so that may make a difference to start now if this isn't something you are familiar with
