Y-90 liver cancer treatment: What's your experience?

Posted by mudshark @mudshark, Dec 8, 2019

I recently was treated with y-90 on a tumor in my liver. I am interested in knowing of others that have had experiences good, or bad, and of long term results. I have had prior resection of the liver to remove a tumor but a new tumor surfaced in a different section. I am hoping the y-90 will prove to be a more permanent solution. Thanks

Great news. I am having y99 next week. How were your side effects?

Hello all - I had the mapping for the y90 treatment yesterday and felt it went great! I'm a little fatigued but at work today. I felt the news afterword was pretty encouraging too. Of three possible carcinomas only 2 were cancerous and the third benign. I guess they can only radiate two at a time so it saves me from a second procedure. Now were scheduled to shoot on July 21. I have Hep C that caused liver damage and can start that med protocol (Eclusa) as soon as we're sure the cancer is gone which I'm anxious to get the liver damage stopped. Would like to hear from you. Thanks, Diane

Hi @mudshark, I'd like to add my welcome. I'd also like to bring @tomewilson @afrancesca and @jerrydrennan who have talked about radioembolization (Y90) treatment.

Mudshark, (interested username) Did you experience any side effects of post-embolization syndrome, like fatigue, nausea, vomiting or fever? When will you have followup to discuss the effectiveness of the treatment?

Hi Colleen...I was glad to hear that someone who has had y99 treatment had limited side effects. I will receive my y99 treatment next week for a 3.5cm unresectable HCC due to location and while I have evidence of Cirrhosis, all blood work is normal including AFP. No symptoms. Hoping that the y99 can shrink the tumor and future resection or transplantation will be possible. I am a otherwise very healthy 70 year old. Interested in hearing from others that have had y99 treatment and their progress toward a resolution or transplantation. Thanks

You might want to look at taking 955 standardized curcumin wit black pepper extract to both help recovery and possibly inhibit reccurrance, I would reccomend 1000 mg doses posssibly more than once a day.

Also "timed release" vitamin C is helpful for building the immune system.

correction should say 95% not 955

Thank you very much. I seem to be getting my energy back slowly, after 7 weeks post Y90. What natural medicine have you found helpful? I would like to research natural medicine.
Sending prayers to you as well.

A 13.0 x 6.5 cm lesion was found on my 85 year old husband's liver on Feb 16 of this year. A biopsy on Mar. 3 showed that it is early HCC cancer with no chirrosis. The mass did not exist 14 months prior and other than the stress he feel great and continues to take walks and use the rowing machine three times a week. The reason he went to the doctor was because in November his taste started to change and he lost 25 lbs in two months. His taste reverted back to normal about 12 days ago and he's gained back about 10lbs.
The options presented so far are removal of half of his liver or Y-90. He is leaning towards Y-90 as he would prefer to not go under the knife at his age.
I would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has used Y-90 as their primary treatment. Dave's choice is quality of life over quanity and I fully support whatever he chooses. He wants to make as informed a decision as possible and tomorrow he will be getting his second opinion at the University of Washington Liver Tumor Center.
Thanks in advance for any info and support. Judi
