Would like to know your experience with Evenity
Hi I have severe osteoporosis. I am thinking of going on Evenity and need to build up my bones before a much need knee replacement. I would appreciate it if anyone out there who has been on Evenity can tell me what your experience has been. The black box warning scares me but I don't feel like I have a choice as there are only 2 anabolic bone building drugs at this time and that's what my dr. said I need before the knee replacement. They both recommended Evenity. I don't have any heart issues other than having high cholesterol. My dr. wants me to consider going on a statin.
Thank you

Oops. Recast.
I had absolutely no issues with Evenity and saw quantifiable improvement. No side effects. If have had good dental care and continue that than no worries about dental issues. Can take a while for insurance approval so start early. You may want to consider investing in working with a trainer to systematically improve your fitness and strength to be able to improve weight baring exercise. Good luck.

3 ReactionsI just finished Evenity in Narch 2026 and had no side effects. I don’t have heart issues but I have had 4 compression fractures in 2024 and 2025 so I didn’t really feel I had a choice. My dexa also showed -2.8 and -3. One thing I learned that a dexa scan needs to be done on the same machine to get proper readings. I went to two different machines and that caused confusion. All in all I felt good on Evenity (I don’t take steroids or blood pressure medicine) the next step for me is 2 years of Prolia and then Reclast then a break. Like they say each person is different so do your own research. And good luck.

2 ReactionsThe black box warning is for heart attack/stroke risk, but doctors usually weigh that against how severe your osteoporosis is. If you don’t have prior heart issues, many still go ahead with it (with monitoring).
Big picture: it’s one of the few drugs that actually builds bone fast, so for severe cases, people take the risk. Most don’t have major issues, but it really varies person to person

2 ReactionsI've read here on this site that many people have reported weight gain from Evenity. Anybody gain weight from this drug?
@cndstegle No drug is 100% safe. need to weigh the pros and cons and one's health issues. No cardiac issues, kidney issues, etc. My infusion center has a nurse practitioner who is excellent and available. So far the only issue I had is a raised rash and itchiness helped with cold compresses, lightheadedness ( might be from coffee?), an spasms in my back which were helped with a warm shower and stretching. I learned from my NP that evenity absorbs best when injected in the abdomen.

3 ReactionsBoth my endocrinologist and my DIL who is an Endocrinologist say it is easily tolerated and the black box warning for heart issues aren’t a concern (maybe will be removed?). I wanted to go on it but my co-pay was 4K!

3 ReactionsIs there any discussion on long term gains maintained after Evenity? My understanding is the only follow up options are Prolia or Reclast. Once you are on those you do not benefit from further bone building drugs such as Forteo or Tymlos . I have read comments where folks have lost gains from Evenity after two years even on maintenance plan.

1 Reaction@broken13 So hard to know what to do. Unfortunately, I really don't have a choice but to go on a bone building drug cuz I need a knee replacement cuz my dexa score is pretty bad and I had a compression fracture and some fragility fractures. I want to if at all possible minimize the risk of the implant loosening and avoiding a revision surgery.

1 Reaction@davi1 Your situation seems to warrant the big guns. I think you need to listen to your experts on this one. I've now been on Forteo and recently just doing full round of Teriparatide. Both times I have gained weight but also bone density. Both times it has been 8-10 pounds and I lost it after the first time with Forteo and I expect I will loose it again this time when I am done. Wishing you all the very best in your treatment and recovery.
