Will omicron make long covid symptoms worse?

Posted by greg1234 @greg1234, Feb 7, 2022

I am in 6th month of long covid. I am worried about getting omicron, especially if it might make the existing long covid symptoms worse. Current thinking that long covid might be an autoimmune response makes me worried about pouring gasoline on the fire with omicron. Has anyone read any information about this? Thanks!

I would like to know the same. I’m 14-15 months post my Covid infection.

It was the Omicron Variant I got last Novemer1st and was very ill despite having had 5 COVID boosters [vaccine] The Omicron virus is stronger and more easy to transmit. Without all the vaccines I would likely have died. A person can get COVID more than once. I was put on PAXLOVID one of the 3 meds they have for this disease. Please realize this disease will still be around for a very long time. Continue to wear a mask in your outing! Wash hands frequently, do not touch your face unless hands are freshly washed.
If you get it again ask your MD for a script of an antiviral like Paxlovid.
Once I get something, as in a disease, I investigate how to understand it , see my MD and if he is not knowledgeable in it I ask for a referral to a specialist who does know. Then if the disease or 'fall-out ' is part of what I got --I look at my resources to help me, then I deal with my interior mind to accept what I have got and work around it. Without acceptance, we get more body inflammation that works against us ever getting better.
We will get better. Falling apart may be part of what we do ---I felt like that too. Then we have to pull ourselves together and keep positive thoughts. We need to reduce the inflammation in our body. As it reduces by our not being down about it --we will get better.
If we have a preexisting disease or condition, like arthritis or any other, then we already have inflammation in our body ---so--makes it more important to put or brain in gear and heal our body by reducing the inflammation. We will be better~~~ Believe.

How can we possibly know if what we are experiencing is Covid for a second or third time, post Covid, or a new variant? All of my symptoms have run together for months/years. My initial Covid was 3 years ago and I haven’t felt well since then. Every time I test, I am negative for Covid.
I agree that it is crucial to stay as positive as possible . I can look back over these 3 years and see how my mental attitude has had a direct influence on my symptoms but I think we must be careful to not force ourselves to be positive. We need to be true to ourselves. The thing I must watch myself for is despair or hopelessness. When I know I am getting into a serious slump, I try to stop, take a break and lean on the good people I have found here, as well as others in my life. I realize what helps one may not help another but I am speaking for myself and hoping my experiences will help another.
I like your thoughts on seeking knowledgeable doctors . I’ve been given guidance that has sent me on the wrong track for weeks. It’s important to find a physician that works for us personally. You are so right about educating ourself and finding knowledge wherever it may be. We are each at a different place in our search for answers and we must all be sensitive to that.
I have learned that most everyone have something to offer if they are genuine and truly care about one another.
Thank you for sharing what you have learned. It is very helpful.

Also, I think you are spot on concerning inflammation, the body, mind and spirit. I’ve had RH Arthritis for years.

I am a Chronic Long Hauler. I started with the first positive in February 2020 it lasted just a few weeks almost a month. Then again in May 2020 but I didn't test positive. They found it in my blood. I was given Antibody at that time. Then, in Dec 2020 I got really really sick and it lasted for over a month and a half. Then in June of 2021 my husband wanted free baseball tickets, so we thought because of what the CDC said. I was prime candidate for catching in and the vaccine would keep me from getting it. Well, I am here to tell you it almost killed me. With a 106° fever and being in a state of shock. I am pretty sure this is where my brain fog has stemmed from. After that I just keep getting worse. In January 2022 both my husband and I were sick till the middle of February. We slowly felt a little better. Then in June 2022 again I am sick with a low grade fever I was feeling once more like death, so after going threw it a few times now I was becoming a professional. I went to the local ER where the Doctor confirmed that I was Covid positive and not only that. He gave me a diagnosis of Long Covid. I never seen this until January 2023 after November 2022. where I fell I'll once more, but in between that I had to get a booster inorder to be eligible for a job that I wanted with my all. So in October of 2022 I got the Phizer Booster my last step to be fully vaccinated. It was no longer than a month later I felt as though I was on my death bed. I couldn't stand, walk,or so anything on my own I was bedridden and my body was shutting down. Kidneys, my GI system was stopped for next to almost 6 weeks. I went to the Doctor and I knew more about this deadly syndrome than he did. I was referred to a Gastrointestlogist. I received a Upper and lower GI colonoscopy, and HIDA scan and biopsy to find out that my whole upper GI had been being eaten up with inflammation, so much I have to now take 10 days of Antibiotics and go in for more tests. This disease or syndrome is here for the long Haul. It is destroying people, lives, jobs and your finances. Not to mention what it's doing to yourself esteem your attitude towards life. Not to mention your mental state of mind. Thank you for listening. I believe that once you get a repeat it just keeps getting worse it's hard for me to detect which one was deadlier or harder to deal with because it's been eating me up now for 3 years this week.
