@romans528 I know you’re very anxious about also getting Parkinson’s disease and upset that your brother has it. From what I have read, Parkinson’s isn’t inherited . This article explains some of it.

Your best bet to to have a talk with your doctor. Did your parents, or their parents, have Parkinson’s?

No probably not a good make sure you exercise eat a Mediterranean diet and make sure you have good stomach health if you don’t go to gastrologist. Very important

You can set up an appointment with a neurologist. My brother and father were diagnosed with Parkinsons. The verdict came out on the side of no. My Dad was older when he showed signs. My brother was younger and is in hospice now.

My mother died from Parkinson's 25 years ago. Prior to her dying I read a lot about it. Somewhere I read that it maybe a Mother Son hereditary connection. That a mother could not pass it to her daughter, but could pass it to her son's. (I cannot remember where I came across this) But recently they are tying it to your stomach bioum. (and farm chemicals.) Take a good probiotic daily. Change to Mediterranean diet.

My husband died with Parkinson's at the age of 80. He already had signs that he might get it at the age of 20 when I married him. The main one being REM sleep disorder. He always thrashed and kicked and acted out his dreams. If you have no symptoms now, I really doubt that you will get it.

There is genetic testing available. I see a neurologist at Mayo, Rochester. I opted to have the blood tests done. I do not have any genetic background
consistent with Parkinson’s. Your neurologist should be able to order these tests for you. I would just advise you be emotionally ready for a positive result, just in case. I was a little afraid of getting the results - what would I do if I did have the gene. I am very thankful that I don’t.

Several doctors have told me that it isn't inherited but my dad had Parkinson's and two siblings and I have it.

I understand that it is either idiopathic or genetic. If you are concerned I would get a second opinion. Usually symptoms vary as I know you understand. Get a reputable Movement Disorder/ neurologist.I hope this helps. They said I had tremors. But..they did not do anything to verify on my end. Since I am a caregiver for my spouse with his Parkinsons I don't have the time. It is frustrating disease! Love and prayers 🙏 ❤️

My sister and I both have PD. She has had it since she was in her 60s and is 74 now. I am 70 and was diagnosed this year, although I had symptoms for at least 4 years. I don't know if it is inherited, but it is helpful to share our experiences together.

Thanks for the reply. I have had several neurologists and their answers are both yes and no.
