Why Us?
My question is simply why us? What did we do wrong? Smoking too much, drinking too much? Living too much? Sex too much? Premature birth? Environmental hazards? What is the link criteria that makes us more prone to this disease? Is there anything that we can do or should have done differently?

Just for the record lol - I have no idea what is discussion about X and Y and who thinks what but there is some confusion so let me just give facts :
Mom's eggs have X chromosomes (among many other ones , of course)
Dad's sperm cells have EITHER an "Y" OR an "X" chromosome
When Dad's "Y sperm" come to Mom's "X egg" - we get a baby boy that has XY set of chromosomes in allll of his cells in the body.
When Dad's "X sperm" cell fusses with Mom's "X egg" - we get a baby girl with XX set of sex chromosomes in allll of her cells in the body.

4 Reactions@surftohealth88 Lol, I don't know anything about Y or X. I was just commenting on what gently posted. I was assuming he knew what X meant and I took it as if mother has X egg she has a female baby.
One in eight men get it. If over 70 it’s one in six.
If you have a genetic problem that may cause it to occur.
If your father or uncles or brothers, got it then your chances increased by over 100%.
I don’t think there’s anything people can do to prevent it from happening, Though some people say going on a completely vegetarian diet can Make a big difference.

You will ALWAYS have an X chromosome from your mother.
@copyman "... if mother has X egg she has a female baby...."
Nope. All eggs from a female have X chromosomes. The baby can be male or female.
@jeffmarc wrote "some people say going on a completely vegetarian diet can make a big difference."
Yet I've been vegetarian since 1997, and was diagnosed with de-novo stage 4b prostate cancer in 2021 at age 56.
On a broad statistical level, the people Jeff quotes are correct — high consumption of preserved meats shows a correlation with certain cancers like prostate or colon.
But that doesn't mean diet is a control lever — you cannot prevent prostate cancer simply by avoiding bratwurst, salami, and hot dogs
Public health stats are about whole populations, not individuals. It's just like how economists can tell you the economy is improving, but you still get laid off from work the next day. 🫤

8 Reactions@copyman I would put all of your factors under ‘environment’ as well.
Anything not naturally occurring - or put there by man - whether it be a chemical in a steer or chicken, a dye in a food, or a toxin released into the air we breathe are all environmental factors to be considered.
I know what you mean when you say it sounds ‘political’ - WHEN DID THAT HAPPEN??
How can clean air and water and non toxic chemicals be a right or left issue? Don’t we ALL want the same things?
I live on Long Island. Lee Zeldin was a staunch supporter of common sense environmental practices when he was our representative.
But now that he is the head of the EPA he has done a complete about face and has dismantled many protections that were put in place. Were some of them a bit too strict? Absolutely!
But just like the pendulum, he has swung completely the other way, and is now allowing known poisons to be pumped into streams and rivers. I guess he has to appease the big corporations who have felt handcuffed by previous administrations? I just wish everyone would just take a common sense approach to this issue and please STOP using it as a political weapon.
Best,
Phil

6 Reactions@heavyphil Good points and all these environmental things were brought on by man.
As for the political aspect, this is one discussion I will avoid. Because next we will be discussing / debating global warming, etc.....

1 Reaction@copyman Nope - not me! Everyone can think whatever they want about anything they want. My wife and I can’t even agree on what to have for dinner!
