Why do I have constant pain and constipation when ulcerative colitis i

Posted by mariajean03 @mariajean03, May 5 9:10pm

I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in 2016. Mayo put me on Entyvio in 2018 and I have been in remission ever since yet I suffer almost daily from abdominal pain and bloating with constipation. My doctor wants me to go back to Mayo for IBS but that is out of the question. Colace can be too hard on me at times but doctor says to take it daily as needed. Can anyone relate to any of this cycle. Thanks.

@mariajean03 Are you still having problems with pain and constipation? Have you talked with your doctor? Your doctor is really the only one who can help with this.
( there is usually a LCSW in the office. Tell your doctor you’d like to talk to this person. LCSW is a licensed clinical social worker who is also a therapist)
Will you call the office tomorrow?

I have crohns but have serve constipation. I have tried everything in the book and my drs now want me to think about surgery. I only go to the bathroom about 3-4 times a month. Even a colonoscopy prep had no effect on me and going to the bathroom. Idk how serve your constipation is but if you have a gastro dr im sure they can help. There are alot of options and medications for constipation. If none of them work theres tests that would probably come next to find the problem out. Good luck!

So sorry. Your constipation is much worse than mine. Abdominal scan coming up next. Good luck to you!

Thanks. But there is no social worker in his office. I have one thru my primary care and a nurse. Abdominal scan coming up next week. I'm going to ask if they could work with my GI office doctor. Complicated!

I recently started Entyvio since being diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. It has stopped the constant diarrhea, but I too have abdominal pain and constant constipation. I take magnesium L-threonate during the day and that helps somewhat. But when the bloating and weight gain get too bad, I take a laxative (OTC) 2-3 times a week. I hate having to constantly monitor everything. Why is it so hard to poop??

Can you ask your holistic Dr. About Emma relief to correct gut microbiome? Just heard about it from a nurse. Thanks!

I will absolutely ask him. I am going back soon.
You can actually mail a cheek swab to him also. I pay $100 and he runs it through something and writes all that os off in my system, also what bacteria, viruses.. that are causing any issues.
A girlfriend with thyroid issues also.. had what she thought was IBS symptoms for a long time, tried these pure brand enzymes. It cleared up. She has no intention of eating any different than she always has, but her symptoms of what she thought was IBS are all gone, right away.

Blessing to you Becky. I've pulled so many years of records, I'm trying endocrinologist and internists.. it is crazy to me they don't, know, care, understand?

Health care, this year alone has cost me $500-$700 monthly (because I can't go back to any kind of work yet.. the fluctuation in cost is paying back the government for supplementing my insurance) plus a $9600 deductible that's met as of last month.
I had 4 internists, 1 a prepay office, in 25 years, same constant blood work results flagged, with the exception my sugar and cholesterol have been going up through the years, also weight, and bp.

If I hadn't gone in tears to my ob last September after 2 failed stapes bone replacements (same ear, first one just fell into my ear days after surgery doc didnt believe it until he went in for second replacement.. he sewed this one in??) and a baloon sinus surgery.. the echo from hollowed out sinus cavity and tinnitus make me feel crazy not sleeping or hearing on one side.. right side tinnitus starting recently. If I had known I had Hashimoto's, just getting rid of the inflamation, with diet and digestive enzymes, I possibly wouldnt have been so desperate to get any of those surgeries.
I'm so thankful, greatful, blessed that my bp, weight, circulation and want to move again are all so much healthier in just weeks. Just finding out I wasn't making digestive enzymes due to my thyroid. Also only taking levothyroxine with distilled water.

How do we as humans find a doctor, that actually diagnoses and treats the whole body. This shouldn't cause PTSD just trying to get help.

I'm sure this isn't an easy answer.. any advise is appreciated.
Thank you
