Whole Body Vibration for Osteoporosis

Posted by jmanj @jmanj, Jun 24, 2021

I’m looking into Whole Body Vibration to aid in bone building for osteoporosis. I’ve read that Low Intensity Vibration is better than high intensity. Does anyone have any experience with this?

@lkel

I have no personal experience, but I remember reading many years ago that NASA was studying this to keep bone health up for astronauts that are going to spend a long time in space. They were, at the time, testing it on sheep as I recall.

You are correct. My questions have been focused on discovering what kind of vibration works. It’s difficult to get my arms around.

has anyone used vibration for over a year and had good results?

I'm also interested in anything that would help to reverse osteoporosis, ie; trampolene? bone growth formula? I'm 76 1/2 yrs. young...don't have a lot of time to turn this ship around.

I have osteopenia as well. Can’t risk trampoline and breaking more bones. So, I too am interested in this low intensity machine. Good luck

Hi @gabe4223 and @mariadeastis, Margaret Martin, a Physical Therapist specializing in osteoporosis, sent an email with this information about a week ago. In her email, the links worked. If they don't work here, just Google Margaret Martin, Whole Body Vibration Platforms. The Marodyne LIV was developed in conjunction with NASA.

" If you are interested in learning more about LiV as a modality, I recommend you read this article on vibration therapy for osteoporosis. It is a very thorough review of the technology.

"In this article, I review the Marodyne LiV device.

"This article covers contraindications of whole body vibration platforms.

"Finally, we are editing the recording and will be posting it on our YouTube channel in the next week or so. At that point we will announce the availability of the video in our regular email to our subscribers."

I'm scheduled to start Evenity in January and am having serious doubts with regard to side effects. Looking for alternatives and interested if anyone knows anything about whole body vibration treatment.

I started using the Marodyne LiV four weeks ago. I use it three times a day. I’m happy with my decision to spend the money. It’s become an important part of my new fitness regimen. I’m following Margaret Martin strength training videos. Just bought the box weights. I’m feeling pretty strong.

Hi @dmanduca, I got an email from Margaret Martin last week with a recent report about the effectiveness of LIV platform exerciser. (After her report on Vibration Therapy I stopped using the High Intensity Vibration exerciser I had been using for nine months). I checked the LIV out at Marodyne and noticed the price has come down. Unfortunately, it cannot be placed on carpeting and our whole house is carpeted, except for the kitchen, so at this time, I don't have anywhere I could put it. I think it would be good for my husband to use as he has Alzheimer's Disease and osteoporosis.
I've been doing Dr. Loren Fishman's 12 Poses vs Osteoporosis (yoga) to improve my bone density nearly everyday, and just purcased the DVD of the second series of poses. Even the simple poses are too complex for my husband.
I haven't ruled the Marodyne LIV out, but need to get creative about where it could be placed or find some kind of platform I could place it on. I'm open to suggestions.
