Whole Body Vibration for Osteoporosis

Posted by jmanj @jmanj, Jun 24, 2021

I’m looking into Whole Body Vibration to aid in bone building for osteoporosis. I’ve read that Low Intensity Vibration is better than high intensity. Does anyone have any experience with this?

@shula

Which machine did you purchase for low intensity vibration? Appreciate your reply.

Juvent. I’ve been using the Juvent for over three months for 10 minutes three times a day. I have less stiffness and feel great as it’s good for the lymph system as other parts of body. I’m looking forward to bone growth as advertised with it, as my bone density tests have not been good in the past. I am 85 years young and love how I feel after being on the Juvent vibrating plate. I just finished a year of Evenity, and planning on no more drugs!

Glad the Juvent makes you feel so good. Remember though, there's no proven way to do an anabolic bone med and not lose your gains if you don't follow it with an anti-resorptive like Reclast. I believe some docs think you may be able to do Reclast only once or twice and that will be enough to preserve gains made with Evenity. Best of luck

Has anyone tried the whole body vibration equipment? If so what brand did you get?

I have experienced OsteoStrong and it’s great but…very expensive. Over $200 a month for a weekly 15 minute session. Very unaffordable for most people.

I just started Osteostrong last week. I haven’t had significant success with drugs so trying this. I’m also being better about weight & resistance training.
If it works it’s worth it to me.

Hello @scbarb79, I moved your discussion to an existing discussion on "Whole Body Vibration for Osteoporosis" - https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/whole-body-vibration-for-osteoporosis/ so you could read through some of the experiences of members who have discussed this topic previously.

I'd like to also invite @awfultruth, @shula, @dmanduca, and @fayelouise back to share their experiences with different vibration equipment.

I started using the Marodyne low intensity vibration plate one year ago. When I started, I had had a Reclast infusion ( my first and only) and my Dena score for spine was -2.8. Last month, I had another Dexa scan done and I am now in the Osteopenia range (-2.1). My Endocrinologist feels that the Marodyne along with increased calcium intake must have helped, as it is extremely unusual to have the numbers drop. I was planning another infusion, but now that I have osteopenia rather than osteoporosis, I no longer need bone meds, just continue with over the counter calcium and vitamin D3 .

@mnsnowgirl Thats great news!! I also use a Marodyne. Though there’s been some negative talk on this blog about it I still feel like it’s a worthwhile adjunct and that as further research is completed that will hopefully be proven.
