@adam11133- Hi Adam and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. Let me ask a few questions first off to see if I can help. Did you go to a doctor and what did he say? Are you sure that the phlegm is coming from your lungs and not just your sinuses?

@adam11133- I know that this is scary and frustrating. I have constant mucus in my throat and in order to dilute it I drink a lot of water. Have you had any blood work done to make sure that it isn't an infection?

Pls suggest me blood tests for lung infections , thankyou for helping me

Please tell us, in general terms, a little more about yourself and your overall health. Any symptom that persists for 8 months is concerning, but sometimes causes are extremely difficult to track down. Especially, can you think of any changes in your life dating back to that time - a move, new pet, new job, etc.

I think it may be premature to jump to a discussion of MAC, especially if a single course of antibiotics helped, and because a runny nose is not necessarily characteristic. It could still possibly be many other things including sinusitis, allergies, and other lung infections.

As step one I would recommend consulting a pulmonologist to have a complete health history, lung x-rays, and if indicated a CT scan. If these indicate infection, the doc will possibly order a mucus specimen. This test is sent to a special lab for culturing, and takes 4-6 weeks to see if there is MAC, then further testing to determine what drugs will be effective. The course of treatment is 1.5 years or longer.
