When to call Mayo and when to go local?

Once we have seen a Mayo cardiologist, if we have problems, do we contact our local doctor, or contact Mayo? Im confused, and I also do not trust any local doctor or hospital with apical hcm especially if its severe and getting worse. Thank you.

Hi @jojs,
I completely understand your question...I am dealing with that exact same issue right now. I live across the country from Rochester, MN, but I would not hesitate coming back if there is something going on. I also have little to zero confidence in my local cardiologist as far as HOCM/HCM, post-septal myectomy, etc.
If you feel you are getting worse, my advice would be to contact the Mayo Clinic through the patient portal and ask your medical team your question or share your concerns with them.
I had to contact them this week after over a year, and they are so incredible about getting back to you right away. The Mayo Clinic is the top hospital in the World for HCM/HOCM and if you are established, that is a blessing!
It is a dilemma for those who live in a place with a physician who is not familiar with our condition. Because they are not familiar, how can we trust their input?
I am waiting right now for the care team to get back to me...don't be afraid to reach out to them. They are the best in the world for a reason.
You mention your HCM is severe and getting worse...have you seen your local doctor yet, or are you waiting?
