What is Your Tolerance for Hemoptysis?

Posted by juliea55 @juliea55, Jan 10 7:34pm

I have nodular MAC, which so far I have been able to treat with nebulizing and a Vest. However, in recent months, I have had bouts of hemoptysis. In the past, I have immediately stopped nebulizing and using the Vest for several days. Moreover, to avoid hemoptysis, I have for the most part have scaled back to 3 percent saline. Unfortunately my scans now show my MAC is worsening. I would like to go back to 7 percent saline. My question is this. If you just have a few red streaks in your sputum, do you stop nebulizing? Or do you continue as long as you are showing only small streaks of blood on occasion? The most hemoptysis I’ve had is one or two teaspoons of blood. I obviously pause nebulizing when that occur. I just wonder if there can be some tolerance at a lesser point, or if I should take the small streaks as a warning and stop. Any advice on this is appreciated. Many thanks!

@irenea8 Thank you, Irene! I just saved it to my cart.

BTW, I did buy my daughter the humidifier that you also recommended to replace the ultrasonic one she had. She is really liking it so far and I sent her a dedicated brush to clean it! When you have a moment, would love to know what your cleaning routine for that is, but no rush at all. Many thanks in advance.

@paxmundi
It has a self cleaning mode. You just add some vinegar to the pot with enough water and run it. But you can also take out the parts and run them under water and put vinegar in the pot with water and let it soak and clean out any sediment. On amazon with the product are some short videos showing someone taking the parts out. It is very easy to keep clean.

Thank you to everyone who responded to my questiom, especially Irenea8 and Linda of BeClear. Because I am on a clinical trial, I have not yet been cleared to take Vitamin K2-MK4, but I did stop the Vitamin D3, which seems to have resolved my problem for now!
