What happens after C.Difficile?

Posted by dn22 @dn22, Dec 6, 2018

I got C.diff back in October (early to mid). I had taken clindamycin for BV and it didn't react well for me. I went into the ER for intense pain, bloating, and diarrhea. They found out I had a severe case of colitis, my entire bowel system was extremely inflamed. But they didn't know what type of colitis it was until my 3rd day there. Then they did the colonoscopy, endoscopy, and biopsy. So they treated me with antibiotics. Sent me home with more antibiotics. And after finishing them, and giving it a few days I felt better.

I was still more aware of my bowels, which is saying something since I have IBS already. But other than awareness, and maybe some tenderness in a way, it was normal. Then Thanksgiving came, and I ate what my family made. I had immediate diarrhea and pain. I thought it was the dairy, bc I forgot to start taking my IBS meds again. They had me stop taking them for awhile after being diagnosed with c.diff. Then I tried the food the next day, after taking my IBS meds. Same issues.

So I decided no more thanksgiving food. But the pain, bloating, twisting feeling, and pooping didn't stop. And I would get the urge, but when I went to go, it'd be a lot of gas, that was hard put to come up. When I would poop, the stool itself was very hard, and not a lot would come out.
My mother bought me stool softener. It made the stool less dry and sandpaper-like. But I still wasn't getting any relief.
So last Friday she gave me some of her Super Colon Cleanse (about 3/4-5/8 of a scoop/serving) mixed with Metamucil in a water bottle. And I drunk half the mixture. I still haven't stopped pooping. I'm pooping for hours again, just like with c.diff. No blood this time though. And the stool is pellet like.
I keep waking up to poop, or try to poop. I can't eat anything. Especially not carbs or dairy. I feel like I'm dying, but in a very different way than when I had c.diff.
I don't know what's happening. If I should go to the hospital or not. Or if c.diff has different symptoms the 2nd time around. Or if, because it was such a severe case, that my bowels were damaged somehow. I'm really just not all right, and idk what to do.

So good to hear from you and that you are doing well! Glad that this is all behind you and you are feeling better! I am doing much better too a year ago had c Diff and finally back to normal now. What an illness I don’t wish it on anybody. Are you back to eating your normal diet??

Hi; I don`t think I`ll ever go back to eating the way I was before C Diff, If I vary from the fruit, veggies and protein only diet,I get intestinal cramps and diahhera, kinda like a mild C Diff. No beef or fried foods for sure.
I still say the S Boulardii was my saving grace,it turned my life around and am still taking 1 a day and probiotics.

Please see my other posts about this. It is not just taking antibiotics but also preventing relapses through eating proper diet post antibiotics that does not produce inflammation or allows the bad bacteria to return. I took four rounds of antibiotics and it was not until I changed my diet that I stopped relapsing. Can’t emphasize this enough. Since I changed my diet, I have gained seven of the twenty pounds I lost in three months and (knock on wood) have not experienced diarrhea in twenty two days. I could see improvement within a week of starting to work with a nutritionist. I was clueless and so was my GI doctor.

What exactly did you cut out of your usual diet. I also had c-diff. Took the antibiotics for 17 days and then tested negative. That was back in April. Now I have achalasia type 111, but no c-diff has not returned. I have cut out sugar as much as I can. No coffee. But of course I'm following what I should be eating for the achalasia type 111.

You are not supposed to eat carbs or dairy after CDiff.

What do you eat then? Does that also pertain to milk of all kinds. I started drinking unsweetened almond milk. What about any yogurt?

I am currently on 14 days of vancomycin because of C diff. My dentists prescribed Clindamycin that is how I got C diff. My question is should I be taking Florastor at the same time as the Vacncomycin? If so how many should I be taking? Or is there a better probotic that I should be taking now and after the Vanco? Any recommendations is helpful. I can only hope the one round of Vanco will stop this horrible disease!

So sorry to hear about you battling this infection. Yes you need to be taking the Florastor with the antibiotic. Any Saccharomyces Boulardii is good. I was taking three pills per day when I was on antibiotic for c Diff. Make sure you take them two hours apart from the antibiotic otherwise the antibiotic will kill the good bacteria in it. I continued with the S Boulardii post c Diff for few months and I added another probiotic right after I finished the vancomycin. Hope this helps and please ask away! Wishing you a speedy recovery.

I didn’t unfortunately I took flagyl and vancomycin to get rid of it. And I developed post Infections IBS and worked with a nutritionist after. Food is key make sure you are eating clean and no sugar at all. You need good fiber in your system to replenish your good gut bacteria. I didn’t take florastor I took another S Boulardii from designs for health and their 50 billion probiomed by designs for health I bought them from a Naturopathic doctor. Go by what the recommended doze is on the box or talk to your doctor about how many you can take. Make sure to buy a probiotic that has different strains of lactobacillus. Hope this helps!
