What do people pay for Abiraterone?

Posted by bonanzaman @bonanzaman, Aug 14, 2025

I'm taking abiraterone for my PC and initially with insurance I was getting it with prednisone mail order for around $250 a month. That was setup by my medical care team. I started searching around and found that I could get it locally at my local supermarket chain for around $75. I asked them if they could get it and they said sure. I then called my prescription insurance company and they gave me the price if I was buying it from them. That is a difference of close to $200 difference. That's a chunk of change for anybody.
I just wanted to pass this on to try to help others who might be paying too much.
Stay healthy.

My investigation into Telstar says it stays in body 253 days, so come October it’s outta my body. Then I ll see what’s gonna happen to PSA/Testosterone levels. Taking only mushroom powder now. Along with routine vitamin supplements.

Thanks for sharing your cost. I could be wrong, but I think on original Medicare the Plan D prescription plan and not the supplement plan governs the cost of pharmacy medicines (unless it's a medicine administered in a hospital or clinical type setting). But there are some exceptions so maybe I'm wrong. Best wishes.

My oncology group has its own pharmacy, so I’m not sure if that has any thing to do with it. We do have Plan D (plan F is part of the supplement). You are right.

Why would you pay someone more to cover your Part B deductible than it would cost to pay it yourself? If you don't go to a doctor except for annual physicals then you end up paying for a deductible that you don't use. I have plan N and so far I've not been billed for anything that Medicare and my supplement don't cover. Even at that, my premium is approaching $200 per month.

I wised up quickly when I started choosing supplement plans after getting burned a little in the beginning. Go to an independent agent and they can get you a list of lowest cost providers for various plans. Remember that ALL providers of say plan G have to offer the SAME coverage. The only variable is cost.
