What can I take to relieve the pain in my legs from the Prolia shots?
I've been having pain in my legs and hips since I got a Prolia shot in February and again in August. My legs are really weak and pain from my hips to my feet. I think it is a side effect from the Prolia shots. How long does this side effect last and what can I take to help with the pain?

I don't know what reclast is. Is it shot for osteosporosis? I'm done with the Prolia shots. Had 3 of them and was only due to get one more. At 87, I'm just going to continue with the calcium and vitamin D like I've been taking most of my life. I have osteopenia which is not as bad as osteosporosis. My doctor just thought I would benefit from the Prolia shots. Not really sure my pain is coming from the shots, but I'm ruling out other things.

Have you addressed the issue of prolia rebound with your doctor?

1 Reaction@jcking1938 This is extremely serious if you just quit taking Prolia as all of the benefits that you have made will dissolve within a few weeks. Your bones will be more brittle than when you started it. Please call your doctor right away and look at a transition drug.

1 ReactionI do not know what prolia rebound is. What are the symptoms? Would the doctor have something that would reverse this?
@gale2hankins
my doctor did give me the shots in my upper arm. I have an appointment with him on October 20th. He is going to check my dexascan. Don't know if he will have any answers for my leg and hip pain. The pain is so bad now I have been using my walker inside my condo as I can hardly stand any more. Also using a heating pad for my thigh and hip. Have an appointment with pain specialist and also one with my orthopedic doctor in November. Hope he doesn't have to operate on my hip.

1 Reaction@jcking1938, I'm pretty sure the pain is from Prolia. Aside from the pain there are a couple of dangers with Prolia. One is atypical femur fracture. If you are having leg pain, you might be wise to have an MRI. The risk lessens when you stop Prolia, but stopping doesn't undo any damage done. Then there is the genuinely scary thing about Prolia. Prolia stops the cells that breakdown bone just before they are mature. Because Prolia doesn't destroy those cells they collect all at the final stage. When you quit the drug, this collected mass of preosteoclasts mature at once and can devastate your bones. This is called Prolia rebound. Not only are your cells more brittle, but they succumb to the acid producing cells and can cause multiple fractures. Fractures you wouldn't have been at risk for if you hadn't take Prolia. These fractures are sudden and occur in multiples in some cases.
Reclast is the medication relied upon to stop those osteoclasts and prevent those fractures. It isn't usually a fun drug, but you may need it to prevent fracturing. Reclast is a single injection probably good for 18 months. You didn't need Prolia, but you may need Reclast.
It is possible to track the work of the cells that break down your bone through a serum blood marker CTX. Having a fracture in age can be devastating. I'm worried that calcium and D which worked so well all of your life, won't be sufficient after Prolia. I hope you reconsider a follow-up medication. Bless your bones.

1 Reaction@sue417 hi I’m due to start prolia soon and am worried about all the side effects I’ve been reading about here so when I saw that you are taking reclast and I’m wondering if you’re having any side effects, I just want to make an informed decision as I have been suffering from leg pain for the last two years and not getting any answers so don’t want anything I take to make that problem worse as I seems that’s the main side effect with prolia I’d be very grateful for your feedback
@roughanne
Hi
So I started reclast in 2022 after my first spinal compression fracture and I've done it every year since with the exception of this year he tried that daily forteo and it was horrible so I just had my infusion actually last month. My pharmacist advised me to hydrate the day before so I do a drink called roar and coconut water and the morning of the injection I hydrate with another roar you can use Gatorade. I take a Tylenol in the morning of the infusion and I'm good I haven't had any major problems or side effects whatsoever. I think hydrating is the key. When I come home from my infusion I do another energy drink like Gatorade or roar I also take another tylenol at bedtime. I hope it works for you and you give it a shot.

2 Reactions@sue417 thank you Sue for all that info I’m going to discuss it with my doctor and get his opinion on it , I might show him your message if that’s ok with you ? as it’s always better to be able to see a real persons response to using it , I’m assuming you’re in the United States but I’m in Europe in Dublin Ireland 🇮🇪 so hopefully that drug is available here many thanks again😊
