What can I take to relieve the pain in my legs from the Prolia shots?

Posted by jcking1938 @jcking1938, Sep 6 5:58pm

I've been having pain in my legs and hips since I got a Prolia shot in February and again in August. My legs are really weak and pain from my hips to my feet. I think it is a side effect from the Prolia shots. How long does this side effect last and what can I take to help with the pain?

I have had 3 Prolia shots, the last one in August. I started having pain in my legs in April. Nothing seems to help with the pain incuding Physical Therapy and shots in my back.
My legs are so weak it is hard to stand or walk in the morning. I'm getting a dexascan in October to see if it shows anything.

Sorry to hear about the pain you are having. Hope you get good results in your Dexacan. Still have not decided about Prolia. I am having dental work now, so can't try anything. Take care.

Wish I had encouraging words for you but I don’t. I had to wait it out. I have tried all the meds for osteoporosis. All of them gave me pain in my legs. It was a 2 year nightmare and nothing improved despite the meds. The most helpful treatment was Advil PM at night, but that’s not good long term for several side effects. What has helped just a tiny bit is consistent weight bearing exercise over the past 2 years. Insurance pays my gym membership — if you can jump a bit, hit the ground with both feet — that seems to strengthen bones. My Dexxa scan went up last time. Good luck!

So pain in my legs, mainly cramps in my thigh, side of knee, calf and side of ankle. Can be from Prolea?

If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't get the Prolia shots. I was doing good at my age and just taking the calcium and Vit. D. I am 87 years old now so I think that is pretty good.

@fracture37

What are your dexa scores and frax numbers? Have you taken Osteoporosis drugs before?

@fracture37 I refuse to take any big pharma products. But we each have to make up our own mind. Do you belong to a group that does weight bearing exercise? Of course, it should be safe for anyone with osteoporosis.

I am 87 yrs old and am having my dexa scan done next Fri. Then I hope to see a Orthopedic doctor to review it. My right hip and both legs are killing me. Can't put any weight on them. I've been using a heating pad and that seems to help. It has been getting worse the last month or so. Main meds don't seem to work.

I am so sorry that you are in so much pain. Will this be your first dexa scan? I hope it goes will. Would you be willing to check back in after the results to let us know how we can support you? What are the "main meds that don't seem to work". Are they for pain?

Hi
I think you need to communicate with your doctor and tell them you want to change your meds it's pretty much that simple I was on forteo in severe pain and I just told him I was done so now I'm back to taking reclast once a year
