What can cause a sharp pain either in my chest or right below it?
I’m 22. I’ve been constipated for several years, and I’m going but I feel like there’s stool that I can’t get out. Since around summer or fall last year, I’ve been having a feeling of fullness right under my chest. In September 2024, I also felt like I started having chest pain or pain right below my chest that would radiate to my back. It gets better at times and I don’t really notice it, but other times I feel like something’s wrong. Today I was exercising, and not too long afterwards, maybe 30-60 minutes, I started having a sharp pain either in my chest or right below it, and it’s radiated to my back at times. I felt tired today too, and like I want to go into a deep sleep but if I rested I don’t know if I’d go into a deep sleep. What could be causing this feeling, and could it be something serious?

If you put a patch on the place that hurts when you apply pressure- lidocaine, or capcaisin, is there improvement? I also use Ben Gay or BioFreeze.
Hope you talk to a doctor soon!
I’d need to try that and see if it helps. It seems like most of the time though it doesn’t really hurt when I press it
Yes I've gone low fat, try for under 4 g per meal, eat several little meals,, breakfast today ,3 oz of smoothie, nonfat Greek yogurt, applesauce, banana almond milk...then divided onto 3 portions.. My pancreas ,stomach just let me know I've put something in it with twinges on my upper left quadrant!!

Hello, Emily,
Just FYI, I have chronic constipation and occasionally have chest pain in the middle of my chest below the Xiphoid Process, at bottom of rib cage. One time it got so bad with squeezing pressure in my chest that my breath got shallow and it was difficult to swallow. I went to the ER, they did a cardiac catheterization, determined the heart was not the problem, and said it was a gastric problem. They gave me a prescription for nitroglycerin tablets, which I have rarely taken. I am doing better managing the constipation. Good Luck to you!
@emilysteward30 and mark1952 I have chest pain due to acid reflux. In addition to taking Lansoprazole at bedtime I also have the head of my bed raised about six inches. Sometimes I get chest pains despite all this, but a few sips of water (I always have a water bottle at arm’s reach) eases the pain within a few seconds.
Hi I Been having this and none heart related did you ever find out what it was ???
