I am on Mounjaro and it’s been hard to tell that I am on it because of the prednisone. NP says they are fighting against each other. I have noticed the lower I get on prednisone, now at 6mg, I feel the effects of the Mounjaro more. Can’t wait to get off prednisone. I am so sore all of the time. I can’t stand it. I am an emotional roller coaster, I’m very sensitive to cold, my thermostat is crazy, hot and cold, hot and cold. Anyone taking methotrexate?

@gin3
I was on prednisone and could not get off do added methotrexate.. it was not a hood option for me…constant fatigue. Then added lucovorin to reduce taking so many pills if folic acid and that was worse. Intense fatigue and pain ! So stopped both. Am not on Rinvoc 15 mg and was able to taper prednisone to 3 … but had a flair! I am learning that this disease is truely a life long journey ! Patience is so required!

A board certified rheumatologist at Vanderbilt Medical Center recommended Kevzara, which mercifully was covered by insurance. Kevzara worked, at least for me. I am now off prednisone. When I asked the same doctor about Mounjaro/Zepbound (same formulation for both, just different names), the doctor said those GLP-1's in particular had anti-inflammatory properties and agreed to prescribe Mounjaro. 7 weeks later I have lost 18 pounds and feel well, except for pain related to osteoarthritis in the hips. Mounjaro is not Weygovy of course, about which I can report nothing. I did not start the GLP-1 until after I was off the prednisone so cannot speak to whether the two might be in conflict.

@gin3 I take prednisone, methotrexate and actemera. Just had my 2nd infusion and finally my CRP and sed rate has gone down. I’m tapering prednisone and my doctor hopes to get me off methotrexate also. So the actemera will be the only one I’m taking . I hope so. I’ve been on prednisone for 2 years and 5 months. Once I’m on infusions only my plan is to get on a Glp-1 because I have diabetes from the prednisone and gained a lot of weight.

Started on Prednisone November 2025, but in February 2026 I suddenly gained 10 pounds in 2 weeks, after slowly losing 30 pounds over the previous several years. So I went on Wegovy pills via self-pay with a prescription from my PCP. Those worked well for 3 months and I dropped 17 pounds in those 3 months. The Wegovy does kill some of the prednisone appetite increase, but still get sugar cravings. The big thing is that Wegovy makes me only eat very small portions at a meal and then feel full. I was advised to keep exercising and to increase my protein content to help with the steroid-induced myopathy, and that can be challenging.
I just got insurance-coverage for Zepbound due to sleep apnea, so I am switching to Zepbound injections which will be cheaper in the long run (Wegovy pills would be US$3600 for a year, Zepbound will be only US$2100 for the year due to Medicare drug cap). The injection is certainly easier to use than the Wegovy pills.

I had several side effects to Tyenne, the last one coming 90 days from my first injection. That was diverticulitis. If I were going to coach you I would read up on known Tyenne side effects and make sure you are not showing signs of any of these. Then I would suggest you wait to start a new drug until you reach "steady state" which is sometime between 80 and 95 days. Next I would add another 90 days to this timeline to make sure that your body is successful and managing Tyenne on an ongoing basis. You might even wait until you are off prednisone which should be easily inside the 6 months I have mentioned. Then, and only then, would I consider adding a new drug.

GLP1s are showing great signs to help reduce inflammation and assistance with managing more than just your weight. I learned yesterday that the Zepbound they are talking to me about is known to help people with chronic kidney disease, and I have that. It seems that Zepbound lightens the tasks required of the kidneys. I get my nephrologist to approve every drug I start.
