Hi my name is william and just joined. I seem to reach out when i am at my worst. My pain seems to stem from degenerative disc disease. Though the last couple of days the pain has been different and difficult to deal with. I am under care from serveral different practices at The Mayo clinic. It is hard to talk to my wife about my issues because it feels like i should be strong for her. I can feel another episode of depression my mood is failing again and the pain seems to be rushing back. I feel broken

Selna I can emphasis with your situation. My father had Alzheimers and I have no brothers or sisters plus my Mom passed a few years before from Cancer. Luckily my wife was willing to help. My Dad was not as bad as it could have been, he stayed mobile and able to care for most of his body functions , unlike his sister who was in a nursing home the last few years of her life with Alzheimer’s. I was able to hire people to stay with Dad when one of us could not be there. Also, for good or bad, I was diagnosis with fibromyalgia a year or so before and was able to file for disability retirement from my job so I had time free to help him. If you can set up with a local group of support for Alzheimer’s families that help find patient sitters to relieve you when you need it. Check on the internet for other support.

Now the bad news I heard on the new that the feds are requiring all doctors who give opioids to take special training course to use those meds. This is just going to make it harder for all of us. Any day I expect to hear from my Doc that he will no longer be able to prescribe meds either because of fed regulations or his clinic’s refusal to give them out. Good luck 19lin

If it keeps getting harder to get our necessary medications more of us will commit suicide. DEA really stuck it to us because they weren’t making enough MJ arrests.

High my name is Katie and I just posted as sutherlin about lower back pain. Hope to find some answers, suggestions etc.

Hang in there, keep getting tips from here and posting. I joined few days ago on bad body stretch that then gets depressed and catastrophsizing.

REPLY

I’m hoping someone can give me lower back and core exercise suggestions to help strengthen the muscles in my lower back to help keep it steady, but yet not cause more issues with the back.

I joined a Pilates class to do the same. I explained beforehand to the instructor what my condition of my back is. As we stretch she’ll tell me not to do certain moves. She gives me an alternative move.

The group my doctor works with has set a 100mg limit. I had to cut my morphine sulfate contin in half. I hope they don’t lower it any more, because it’s already not enough.

I was doing physical therapy, but could not continue as was leaving half crippled and really not doing much. I am replying from the grocery store. Which i have made it half way though before back is giving me pain in hips and knees. Walking funny and I am sure making werid faces, people probably wondering what the heck is wrong. I am usually not one to think bad thoughts about myself but this is getting so old. The pain last night was so bad I struggled through hanging and decorating for Christmas with my kids.
I think my body is becoming immune to ibrophen or the pain is that much worse. I have another epidural injection scheduled at the end of the month but work is suffering because of my lack concentration. Sometimes I think I should be stronger than this. Oh well

You have to be stronger. At this point it’s a mental thing. I keep going as much as I can because I want to be there for my grandchildren I’ve accepted the pain will not get better. Hell. It’s going to get worse. I know that. But I’m NOT giving up. I want to enjoy my family that I love. It’s hard. I know. But you have to be strong

Trust me, I’m pushing as hard as I can because I want to be there for my granddaughter. I keep walking and moving and going to the gym because I refuse to give up.

Hi, @wbert93. Pain of all kinds can wear at us, and it can be devastating. Each of us has our own way of coping, and the breaking point comes sooner for some than for others. Have you seen a pain specialist or a pain counselor? The pain specialist I see has worked hard to find treatment for me. He knows more options than my primary physician, but even so, we’re still working on it. I can’t take Ibuprofen or any other NSAIDS because I had bleeding stomach ulcers, and NSAIDS can cause bleeding. I took Ibuprofen 80mg, 3 times a day, for more than 20 years. If that works for you, you’re fortunate. If it isn’t taking care of the pain, your doctor could recommend lots of others. Last year, I lost 60 pounds, and I think it helped reduce my pain. I can’t tell you what you should do to cope, but I encourage you to look for ways that work for you.
