Anyone else experience Weight Gain with long COVID?

Posted by RMS @rinadbq, Oct 8, 2021

I have had ~30 pound weight gain since November 2020 when I initially had COVID. It seems disproportionate to my calorie intake. Any one else with this?

I posted several months ago about my sons rapid Wright gain...40+ pounds over three months. All blood work is normal. He's lost all but maybe 12 lbs with the use of Rx diuretics, but don't know if that will be a long term treatment. He likes his doctor, but the dr. Isn't buying the long Covid theory which worries me. My son is too old for me to intervene so i worry in silence.

I had covid in June 2022, it wasn’t particularly bad and recovered in a week.
Since that time I gained a stone, I started watching what I eat more and it seemed like anything I ate showed up in my weight. This was very unusual for me, as usually I’d loose weight fast. It felt like someone turned my metabolism off.

So I am currently battling covid round 2, and as if my metabolism was switched back on. I am at home laying around eating carbs and all kinds, and I’ve lost weight!

Before you all start with “your body was in starvation more” no, I have literally tried everything when I struggled with my weight.

Weird if you ask me…

Thank you for sharing. I too am on diuretics, however, we have already changed meds 3 times because they stop working!
I understand about not wanting to intervene, but I am sure, you are doing a wonderful job. Don't beat yourself up!!
I do believe in the long covid theory.
Take care of yourself and thank you again for sharing!! God Bless, Shelley Tindall

I'm sorry Shelley. It's really tough to be the one effected or the one watching a loved one with this long Covid. One way or the other were in it together. Hope you find an answer soon. Take care

I have the bad mucus in my throat and no matter how much I work out, I can’t lose weight. I am starting the Dash diet because my blood pressure is a little bit high too. A couple of my adult kids just tell me how annoying I am when I clear my throat. Real compassionate (sarcasm). My husband is the understanding one, as he almost died of Covid a couple months ago. My thyroid is off whack too. It’s been 3 years since I had this and the throat mucus and weight keep hanging in there. We wear our masks in crowds, because there are still flus and RSV and Covid still out there. I’m going to try a steroid nasal spray again. That’s all my Dr knows to do. I am grateful for you people. I feel like I’m alone with my long Covid sometimes. Love Llama 🦙 Mama

I still wonder how chromyln sodium nasal spray would work over a steroid.
