Was last night crazy?

Posted by lost55 @lost55, Sep 6 8:56am

Hi all,
Well, last night starting around 7pm was the night from Alzheimer’s Hell.
My wife started having delusions before she went to shower and they continued until the wee hours of this morning. Basically all her possessions have been taken , hidden, or stolen. She blames me for all the offenses!
Slam bang, rant and rave until at least 3am this morning. This was the worst behavior I have seen from her to this point.
For a while I entertained the notion of calling the rescue squad, it was unreal.
The main thing was she couldn’t find her purse. That is concerning to me but she could have stashed it anywhere.
I have tried every trick using the advise given by all of you and all the Alzheimers handbooks.
Truly at a loss..

Oh B, it was Alzheimers Night in Hell for you for sure. I'm sorry. Can you find time for a nap today?

Will probably fall asleep on the sofa sometime today🤪
Wife is still in bed, I’m afraid to even check on her don’t know if I’ll get Jekyll or Hyde!
I’m in Virginia and it’s already 11:30.
I just no longer have answers. Over the last 5 years it has gotten progressively worse for sure.

Is your wife on any medication to deal with these issues? If not, please talk with her doctor and let him prescribe something to help with the delusions and agitation and if so, please talk with her doctor…it’s evidently not helping and something else may be needed. It took a while to find what works best for my husband and until we did it was a rough journey.

When will you know when it's time to place her in memory care? When things are beyond what you can handle and you say you're at a loss for knowing what to do; maybe it's time now?
Realizing that finances may be a concern, do you feel you need to place her in a more appropriate setting?
Big ol' hugs to you. 🫂

Yes been on Buspirone for a couple of weeks I thought it was helping..
Guess not.
She takes 4 other meds all pretty much the standard for Alzheimer’s. Not too keen on antipsychotics they are dangerous for anyone near 80.
But I will talk to the doctor.

That is a question I think about everyday. Sometimes she is almost normal but lately the delusions have been more persistent and last longer.
I guess I hold off as long as possible. The $ $ are of course a concern.

I understand about stashing things anywhere and then searching for them endlessly. My husband likes to hide his wallet in a different place as often as possible. An Apple AirTag that I taped inside the wallet has been extremely helpful. If you’re often trying to find her purse, it might be useful to put an AirTag or similar device into her purse.

Hi
My daughter actually mentioned that very thing this morning! Don’t know a thing about them but if the next time my daughter visits I can get her to distract my wife I will hunt for the wallet and secret a tag
Thanks

I would take my husband's knapsack and hang it up on a hook every night in the same place. I even considered putting a bike lock around it. Silly, but the intent was to keep it there on the hook, where he could see it but not remove it and hide it. On the hook, he could still get his things out of it, that he thought he needed. After time, putting it in the same place, seemed to register. He now takes it, and puts in on the bed in the 2nd bedroom EVERY night. All of his things lined up on the bed. Phone, keys, wallet, knapsack, even his clothes next to it. During the day, the knapsack moves downstairs off the hook, but on a wicker chair. Or he takes it with him, and puts it in the backseat of our car. I don't know if that's something you could do with your wife's purse, but worth trying. So she can see it during the day hanging up, knows it's there and can still get things out of it if she needs it. On an aside, I did find my "flour" in a remote drawer in the kitchen of the house we're renting. So, now I need to come up with another process for that so all my kitchen things don't disappear! Man, we have to be on our toes with this disease.
Best, Karla

Thanks, I needed that chuckle 🤭 . My husband also places kitchen items in the oddest places! It's been almost three weeks and I still can't find a metal cup he insisted on using for birdseed in order to feed the birds in our backyard. Oh well!!
