@csoutherland1977, I want to welcome you to Connect. I expect that you are totally confused and alarmed by the report from the emergency department's report. And I think that you are wise to proceed to a follow-up with a specialist for further evaluation and possible testing. As a liver tranplant recipient, I've had my share of gastroenterologist and liver specialist visits. The visits generally begin with a review of my symptoms, a brief physical exam of the affected area to identify the area of the pain, and review of medications and/or test results. If more tests are needed, the doctor has always explained what/ahy - or I ask him/her to tell me! Usually labs are drawn before or at the visit, too. I'm probably forgetting some things, but this might give you an idea of what you might expect.
I have not had experience with any mass on my liver, but I did locate another discussion.

@csoutherland1977 - What about your pain: did ER provide any remedy? Do you have an appointment for the follow-up?
