Waking up in the middle of the night
I have treatment resistant Major Depressive Disorder, severe, and Generalized Anxiety Disorder. Needless to say, I've tried a great many meds to help with insomnia. I have good sleep hygiene and can easily fall asleep at bedtime. But I wake in the middle of almost every night.
I take 10mg melatonin, 150mg Trazadone, 50mg of Hydroxyzine, and 25mg of Restoril at night. I know this sounds like overkill, but my problem is being treatment resistant and a very high tolerance for meds.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I can relate with you on both major depression that is resistance to treatment and waking up in the middle of the night with difficulty falling back to sleep.
Have you ever tried Calm magnesium before going to bed?
Do you wake up to go to the bathroom?
Have you ever been tested for sleep apnea?
Do you recall dreaming right before waking up or do you notice a common theme of what may wake you up and why it is hard to fall back asleep? Do you start thinking of things when you wake up in the middle of the night? What have you tried to do to fall back asleep? Has anything helped?
Have you ever tried warm milk before bed or in the middle of the night? Have you tried taking tryptophan?
Do you play soft music or try meditation to help you relax to fall back asleep?

Im in the same boat regarding waking in thd middle of the night, although I don't take meds before sleep
However I take an antihistamine of the drowsy variety containing diphenhydramine ....hope thst might help....it generally gets me back to sleep in half an hour or so and lasts at least 3 hours.

That is a good idea. I just worry I’ll be too groggy in the morning. I already have a hard time waking up and have balance issues and dizziness. Do you feel groggy when you wake up?
I now feel like I need to wear ear plugs because when I woke up this morning around 4am, I took my thyroid medicine and went to the bathroom and then could not fall back asleep due to the birds singing and chirping. I love this during the day but not at 4am. 😉🐦⬛🎶
I actually don't feel groggy when I keep to one tablet. I live in Ireland and use Nytol which contains 50mg of diphenhydramine hydrochloride. Good luck - it sounds like you are having a rough time.
