waiting for hernias surgery post prostatectomy
After prostatectomy I got a nonpainful large and enlarging hernia next to surgery site. I also have a lower right quadrant hernia that causes irritating pain and discomfort. Saw surgeon yesterday and will wait up to 2 weeks for surgery. I will miss my walking for about 2 weeks and another nights stay in hospital. Other than very encouraged.

I am just short of 1 year post surgery for prostate removal (April 28, 2025) 2 weeks following that surgery, I had an incredible pain in my lower left abdomen and lived with it until Jan 2026, when I had it repaired. Between those two surgeries I had a total hip replacement. I'm tapped out on surgeries for a while. ha

2 ReactionsAbout a year after RALRP, I started to feel my intestines descending into my scrotal sac, so I had a hernia repair, which fixed it. That was four years ago.
I was offered conventional surgery for the hernia repair, but after my excellent experience with the robotic prostatectomy, I elected robotic surgery for the hernia repair as well.

1 ReactionI wasn't offered anything by my surgeon other than "It will only get worse. We need to fix them." I have been through so many surgeries in 14 years, what's the big deal? The one hernia is common with prostatectomy. I call it Sigourney, because it reminds me of the movie "Alien". The bad one is lower right quadrant. For all my surgeries I look at it as being better than the alternative. Hope you are doing well.

You're doing the right thing; not waiting very long.
If an intestine bulges through that hernia it can get strangulated and you'll have to hurry to the ER for quick, if not emergency, surgery.
Follow your plan and beware of intense pain.
Good luck!

2 ReactionsI am scheduled to go in for robotic surgery on May 7, so I will ask the surgeon if the hernia can be repaired with the removal surgery? I am also going to ask him about confirming a tight sphincter, along with if I really need the lymph nodes removed, as nothing was spotted on the PET scan?
