Wait time pre-transplant?

Posted by lonnecka @lonnecka, Jun 29 12:33pm

Once a person is referred to Mayo by their doctor for a transplant & that person speaks with Mayo on the phone… How long is the estimated wait time for the next step? We’ve been waiting almost 3 weeks since initially speaking to them. I thought they got back to you pretty fast.

@yeknich

I had mine in 2016 at I.U UNIVERSITY here in Indy. They are top 5 in the Nation doing Transplants. I was in "End Stage Liver Failure " . I got Hep C from an Tattoo that obviously wasn't properly done. I was only 41 years old when I got sick. I have to be honest and tell you it was the hardest , most incredibly painful experience I believe anyone could go through. It took every ounce of strength and the will to live I had. But if I can do it ANYONE CAN. All things are possible.. If you want to reach out to me and let me know what point he is at right now. I would love to help in anyway I can. I don't currently have a phone number but I am on Facebook my name is Corey Michael Yeknich. ✝️💜

When did you have your liver transplant, and what could you advise. This situation is very stressful and I need to support my husband and encourage him. I really wish you the best and appreciate your reply; blessings !

@margui70, I'm a liver and kidney recipient (2009 Mayo Rochester). I can understand the stress that you are experiencing.

Along with packing personal items, there are some things that need to be done at home in preparation for the call (i.e. pay bills, arrange for someone to mow grass, shovel snow, etc). While you are waiting, I want to share the following discussion where members have shared their helpful tips.
