I have a Hill-Rom vest unit and utilize it while nebulizing for 25 minutes. It was very expensive but thankfully our insurance pays a large portion. Our monthly payment is $32.80 for one and half years with our insurance paying $787.20 a month every month. While I use the vest while nebulizing for 25 minutes it could easily go for a longer time.
I have a Hill--Rom Vest. Have only had it for 3 weeks. I would check with doctor or respiratory therapist before using it for such a length of time. Respiratory therapist delivered and showed me how to use vest. I was only started out at 10 minutes 2-3 times a day and, yes, I use it with my albuterol nebulizer.
My Medicare Advantage HMO Plan covered most of the cost. I applied for financial assistance thru Hill Rom and they will cover what my insurance doesn't.
The noise isn't bothersome but I really can't hear the radio while using and maybe some people can read but too much vibrating to comfortably read.
I have a Smartvest, I wouldn’t be able to use it while nebulizing as I can hardly breathe with the vest on. I coughed up blood last week after using it, so now I’m afraid to use it

Yes Sue, you are smart. I was not smart enough to know the negative effect of it. I thought it would help with dislodging mucus and requested my pulmo and the company sent me one. I'm a very small person 5 feet (104 lbs last year when I got it). So, it hurts a lot and it was not helping with ACT, it was just pounding my chest in one place. I got it in September last year and in March, I cough up a lot of blood (not sure from the vest or from NAC because NAC also causes bleeding). Had to rush to ER and stayed in the hospital for 5 days. So, we need to be very careful with our fragile lungs.
I do not have a vest and would be interested to hear what others say from their experience for future reference.
I would be interested to know also if anyone uses any type of handheld percussor ?

3 ReactionsYes, Dr offered steroids. I will contact the Smartvest people Monday about the setting. Turn it down perhaps?

4 ReactionsMy doctor refused to consider a vest due to my low bmi and arthritis in my spine. Hearing your stories makes me glad for her caution .
