Use a pouch post transplant?
I came across a post stating that a post transplant patient is carrying a pouch to urinate. Is this true for all transplant patients ? He goes to urinate about every two hours and has to carry a pouch where he empties his bladder thru a catheter.

No. Body functions continue as they did before a transplant.

This person might have had a urostomy prior to transplant, for whatever reason.
However, a transplant does not change body functions. Glad that was helpful to know!
I had a liver transplant 27 years ago, then 5 yrs ago had GYN cancer which required a lot
of removal of tissue. The bladder had to be removed at that time. So, I do have a urostomy
but it is unrelated to the transplant, it is related to the cancer 5 yrs ago.

Does one has to carry this after discharge from the hospital or is it removed at the hospital during post transplant stay
Removed, I had a Heart Transplant and I seem to remember it was only a few days maybe a week. But I definitely did not leave the Hospital with it.

1 ReactionHi, Dana. After my kidney transplant, I had catheter and urinary drainage bag. It wasn't removed before I left the hospital because I was only in the hospital for 2 days after the transplant. But the catheter and drainage bag were removed at my very first post transplant visit which was just a couple of days after being discharged from the hospital.
