Upset Stomach from stopping Prednisone

Posted by krg351 @krg351, Oct 17 10:09am

I was diagnosed with Behcet;s Disease about a year ago. I was given a low dose of prednisone at 5mg that I had tappered down to 2.5 earlier this year. I had been noticing my stomach upset for a while now with multiple trips to the bathroom. I've stopped the prednisone recently but the diarrhrea has still be an issue. I am using imodium to help manage my symptoms as best as I can. I have reached out to my doctor but he doesn't seems to concerned about it. Has anyone else had this issue? How long did it take to get back to normal bowel funcation?

Prednisone is an immunosuppressant, so it is possible so developed an intestinal infection that was covered up by the prednisone and now that your dose is lower symptoms are showing. Even though this is just a possibility, I would have it checked out. The usual diagnosis is made with a still sample and most infections have meds to easily treat.

@laura1970 thank you. I have an appointment coming up with my doctor and if things aren’t getting better by then I’ll be sure to mention that.
