How do you control uncontrollable Burping and Belching?

Posted by jammins @jammins, Dec 8, 2018

Anyone experiencing uncontrollable burping and/or belching? This seem to be a rear condition that no GI exam air specialist has been able to find a cause and subsequently a solution. Any help from someone with the experience would be greatly appreciated.

Al I can tell you is that I know the feeling 🥺, but a couple of my friends had that surgery for years already and are totally symptom free, at first for about a year or so you would feel like bloated because now gas would go to your stomach but they give you gas x to help you with that, the reason I had the surgery is because i have barrets esophagus which is pre-cancer and it could progress to cancer if I don't stop the acid that made me burp, and my sister had that surgery 20 years ago and she's totally fine thank God! So I'm hoping my symptoms get better within a couple of moths or so since my surgen has 100% success rates 🙏🏻🙏🏻, and of course this surgery HAS to be performed by a doctor with a lot of experience!

I could not have anymore gas in my stomach or intestines then I have had last 10 years, daily / nightly . I use Gas X , Ultra Pepto ( GAS x does nothing for me ) Pepto will calm it for just a bit .
I can’t risk making things worse w/ that surgery.
I’m happy it worked for all of you though .

Some clarification. When you wake up in the middle of the night with gas, that is the time to use the water. Drink a swallow or 2 and you may hear some gurgling. For me that is not intolerance to the water, but rather the gas moving. You can then shift position to help get it up, and sometimes I even press on my stomach gently above the waist. I keep a cup of water next to where I sleep. Another tip; it may help to start sleeping sitting up and after several hours move to the bed and lie down. I slept sitting up for years due to the gas and am finally able to sleep lying down (still start sitting up.) Hope this helps.

OMG - this is very useful information. i have diagnosed gastroparesis and despite making major lifestyle changes and not eating anything solid after 2 p.m. - i still have major problems the minute i lay down. I have been waking up with pain, taking Tums (even so i don't have any acid or reflux) and then taking a sip or two of water to "wash the Tums down" Then i sit up for a few minutes and am able to "burp" the gas .. All this time i thought it was the Tums helping - but now, after reading what you wrote, maybe it is the water and i don't even need the Tums! i am going to try with just water tonight 🙂 Thanks for this information. Now this is something the GI "experts" should tell you - but it seems the only useful information i have obtained is from others with the same condition!!

I’ll have to google that .
Do you take anything besides Pepto like me ?
Even that after 10 years really doesn’t help .
I’ve tried all meds / and holistic treatments. This honestly ruins my life as I’m sure it does all of us writing in here .
My belches ate so huge and wet tastes like gut lining , over and over and over . My gut and intestines never relax . I’m so tired of it ;(

Yes, I'm prescribed omeprazole 40mg twice a day and famotidine 20mg twice a day. My gastro also condoned me taking alginic acid, calcium carbonate antacid tablets (no other ingredients), and 2 Gaviscon tablets a day as needed.

Hi, I'm sorry to hear that what you've been through, have you considered nissen fundoplication surgery? Google it, it has a lot of good reviews and change people's life. I just had it 3 weeks ago and still burping a lot but hoping symptoms will improve within the months. Doctor says it's still normal and it's not acid reflux

Will you post an update on how you are doing post-op following the nissen fundoplication in another month? I'm thinking of having procedure done this year.

I use Biglow Ginger / Lemon 🍋 decaf tea ( buy at Publix or Walmart). They have many good decaf teas . I use Any local organic honey 🍯.
I used to drink decaf coffee for years w/ coconut creamer like Mr. coffee creamer . I quit that like 1.5 years ago and went strictly to the tea .
I still have non stop 🛑 churning / 1000’s of deep belching. My small intestines are so high pitch loud noise esp 5-7 am w/ it .
Everything I eat makes me sick 🤢.
It’s a nightmare for sure .
I dunno 🤷‍♀️ after 9 years or so and all these Dr’s and diagnoses and trying everything. I may have to realize this is my life now . I’m 61 . I pray it’s not but it’s every day for 8-9 years w/o day or night off .
