How do you control uncontrollable burping and belching?
Anyone experiencing uncontrollable burping and/or belching? This seem to be a rear condition that no GI exam air specialist has been able to find a cause and subsequently a solution. Any help from someone with the experience would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,
When excessive burping and belching occur to me, I know it's GERD. I only recently began taking a 20 mg famoditine and it stops it pretty quickly. It also helps with my intense internal GERD pain.

2 ReactionsI have read this thread all tonight. @rozy288 I hope you are doing well these days.
I have my first GI appointment on October 23rd. I can't wait. I burp constantly. I have a list of foods that I can't eat (lactose, alliums, peppers, anything fatty/greasy) and it helps. But it also gets triggered randomly. Between insomnia from hormonal issues and my burping, I don't sleep a lot. I am anxious to figure it all out. Taking 40mg omezprazole with 0 change. Pepto maybe works, or maybe I make it up. Nothing else helps. Have tried probiotics and prebiotics. I just want a full night of sleep again. I am in graduate school, I need all the rest I can get. It's nice to hear from others who have experienced this. A lot of people don't know how intense it is.

1 Reaction@flygnat Hi, Sorry you have Gerd & Insomnia. I take the strongest PPI for Gerd, Dexlansoprazole-60 mg., costs $210 for 100 of them, from Discount Meds of Canada, 1-877-488-0638, even though I live in Florida it is less expensive than my insurance or trumprx. I also have insomnia, i take 250 mg of magnesium glycinate, over the counter. I take Eszopiclone- 3 mg, prescribed by my psychiatrist for depression. Also, I take 100mg of pregablin, for my nerve pain, which helps me sleep. I don’t eat anything with sugar or caffeine, especially not chocolate at nighttime. Hope this helps you!
Possible clue: carbonated drinks discourage stomach acid formation. Belching can be caused by food sitting too long in the stomach.
@bkatz43 Famotidine didn't solve my problem. I am now on Voquezna and I will see if it works better.
@flygnat, welcome to Connect, Nat. You’ve already done quite a bit of noticing about what seems to make the burping better or worse, and I can understand why you’re looking forward to your first GI appointment on October 23.
Since you have a little time before that appointment, you may find this Mayo Clinic information on gas and gas pains helpful. In particular, take a look at the sections on Self care and Preparing for your appointment:
- Mayo Clinic: Gas and gas pains — Diagnosis & treatment
https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/gas-and-gas-pains/diagnosis-treatment/drc-20372714
I especially like the “What you can do in the meantime” section. Mayo suggests keeping a journal of what you eat and drink, how often you experience gas, and any other symptoms, and bringing it with you to your appointment. That may help you and your GI doctor look for patterns together.
You mentioned that 40 mg of omeprazole is making no difference. Did it help when you first started taking it, or has it never helped?
What are you most hoping to get help with at that first GI appointment?
