Tymlos causing belly fat?

Posted by kaa1 @kaa1, Jun 3, 2024

I’m on Tymlos for about 2 1/2 months now. I’m not usually concerned about my weight. I stay pretty stable. I’ve noticed that my belly seems to be getting fatter. Has anyone experienced this belly fat situation from Tymlos? Is there anything I can do about it? Why is it happening? Thanks for any input.

I have always carried excess weight in my abdomen, i have really worked out a lot the last couple of years and started getting a slimmer waistline and abdomen. I’m a month and a half into using Tymlos and notice my abdomen is growing once again. I have also gained 2 pounds. I must say I have also craved carbs, but when I succumb, it has been fruit or graham crackers. I don’t eat much sugar or sweets.

Yes! I was on it for 3 months and then forteo for 3 months. My pants are now really tight in the waist compared to before I started. I also work-out 5x a week and eat clean, but I still gained weight. I'm hoping I will slim down now that I stopped.

Are you on a different medicine now? My belly fat situation sort of leveled off. Well not exactly, I still have a fairly large pouch but it didn’t get much larger after the first 6 months. I’ve been on Tymlos over a year now and I’m dreading any of the proposed next medications. Just curious about what you decided to do. Thank you.

Hi,
I’m on Fosamax now. One pill once a week and I seem to tolerate it well.

Thank you, everyone for your comments. Well, I guess I’m glad to know that I’m not alone with the belly fat situation. I’m curious about the medical reason for this. I’m sure the Tymlos people and even my doctor will deny it as a side effect. Anyhow, I’m going to try to be proud of my big Buddha belly and carry-on!

What does your doctor say? Should we be trying to diet away the belly fat?

My doctor didn’t even acknowledge that the belly fat was a side effect of the Tymlos. I have to say the whole thing did bring up some old eating disorder/body image issues, so I am trying not to go into “diet”mode. I’m just trying to eat healthy, exercise, and not stress over it too much.

Thank you. I don’t want to go into my youthful diet crazy mode, but cannot have the belly pressure on my stomach because of GERD and Barrett’s esophagus. Like you I try to eat healthy and exercise.
