Tymlos causing belly fat?

Posted by kaa1 @kaa1, Jun 3 6:23pm

I’m on Tymlos for about 2 1/2 months now. I’m not usually concerned about my weight. I stay pretty stable. I’ve noticed that my belly seems to be getting fatter. Has anyone experienced this belly fat situation from Tymlos? Is there anything I can do about it? Why is it happening? Thanks for any input.

I know what you mean but in the end don't think it is actually belly fat. In any case for me, it went away quickly at the end of treatment.

Only for what it’s worth, I seem to have developed a pouchy “roll” around my midsection and I’m not really too happy about it; I always took pride in having a strong mid-section.

I don’t know if the cause is Tymlos, Evenity, not being able to move around and get exercise (from side effects of Tymlos), steroid injections, perhaps my loss of height has smushed it all together, or simply gravity ;). However, about a year post-Tymlos and it’s still there. I’ll finish Evenity at the end of June and hopefully things will improve.

Wishing you all warm breezes and sunny days! Cheers!

I also have new belly fat that appears to be from Tymlos. My pants are now too tight around my waist. I need to buy new clothes to be comfortable.

About 3 months after starting Tymlos I began to gain weight and belly fat. The weight gain stopped after several months but the belly fat is still present. I’m 12 months of treatment so hopefully after the 2 year period the belly fat will melt away

Yes, I also have belly fat that I never had (I am 73). I'm not worrying about it for now, because it seems to help make the Tymlos injections painless. Also, my doctor said it was mainly thin women (under 125 lbs) who get osteoporosis, so I am less concerned about keeping my weight down. All my life I have been 120 or under, so now I actually shoot for 125 or slightly above. Also, for decades I minimized protein intake and now realize I shot myself in the foot for bone health. I was getting around 25 grams a day and now I am supposed to get 25 grams per meal, which is not easy. I believe had I ingested 75 grams a day for all these years, I would not be where I am with a bone density score of -5.1 (I was a vegetarian who did not eat dairy).

I did Forteo and now finishing up tymlos. I switched because of side effects with Forteo but not a whole lot different on Tymlos, just trying to push through. I absolutely notice the belly fat—something I have never had. It’s still with me. Sure hope I can get rid of it this summer after I finish. I’m 5’3 & weigh 110—but, my stomach!!!!
And, my scores haven’t improved. Still -3.8. But as my doctor pointed out…I haven’t broken anything.

@kaa1, I am not on any medication but am noticing new belly fat. I think it's too much cheese. :)>

Losing height also causes the belly to stick out. Fractures even more. I suppose in that sense Tymlos kept mine from sticking out more 🙂

@babs10 enjoy that cheese!

Thank you, everyone for your comments. Well, I guess I’m glad to know that I’m not alone with the belly fat situation. I’m curious about the medical reason for this. I’m sure the Tymlos people and even my doctor will deny it as a side effect. Anyhow, I’m going to try to be proud of my big Buddha belly and carry-on!
