Trigeminal Neuralgia & Tinnitus
I was diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia 11 years ago. I've been treating it with Toprimate and it's worked well. 3 years ago after having a hip replacement, I came down with tinnitus. This isn't normal tinnitus where you hear a buzz, ring, etc. This is a high pitched excruciating whistle in my head that is constant. It never stops. I want to jab a screwdriver in my ear but it's not in my ear. It never stops. It doesn't get better, it just gets louder. I have hearing aids to try and take some of the noise away. They don't work. I have pressure on the right side of my head. I've tried neuropressure-the pressure on the left side of my head bent the needles. Didn't work. Behavioral therapy. Didn't work. I have a therapist. Somedays it's so bad I've contemplated suicide because I can't imagine living with this for the rest of my life. I have migraines because of it. No one seems to understand how loud or constant this is. Does anyone else have any experience with this? Any help would be appreciated!!!

I understand and I’m so sorry you have this. I shattered my eardrum as a child and have had tinnitus for 55 years non-stop in that ear since on top of hearing loss. Mine kind of sounds like the bathroom or stove fan going right in my ear. Sooo loud. I hear it above everything else 24/7. Your high pitched noise would be even worse. I can only dream about quiet. I wish I had a solution for you. The only thing that would mask my noise is an airplane engine.

1 ReactionI can feel your pain!!!! I lost hearing in my left ear 3 months ago and since then I have had constant ringing. Sometimes it is louder than other times. But, it is always there and always disgusting!!! When at the lower pitches, I try to treat the ringing like 'White Noise'. It helps as a distraction, but not a cure.
I am now going thru the testing stage of different CROS HA's because my right ear is fine. Fine except for the freakin ringing, ugh!!! The 1st pair didn't work for me and next week I'll try a different manufacturer.
I have read that Cochlear Implants can help to reduce the ringing. I hope things work out for you. Funny/Sad how modern medicine sometimes has zero explanations for human health problems!!!
I have had loud tinnitus for years. Drives me crazy sometimes, my ENT said nothing can be done and referred me to a therapy that helps you cope with it. I havnt gone , I have to many other illnesses. Infusions etc....
@juliehamby
I get that too. I just saw a neurologist. Nothing wrong with the old brain and of course, nothing they can do with the tinnitus. Gave me something for chronic migraines but the migraines are a 1 compared to the tinnitus. Checked off another box. Hope your health gets better.

1 Reaction@dillardtami Thankyou. I hope your health gets better too.
From the looks of it we are all in the same boat. I have had it for about 60 years. I have to run fans at night and look for “white noise anything” at all times. Like everyone here has said, no answer on how to fix it. Kinda off topic…..William Shatner(Star Track actor) has it. Fact check me, I heard he did not want to live any longer with it either. If those thoughts go through your head please seek a shoulder to cry on. I do not have the pressure that you have. Not sure if any of the other respondents here have physical issues like your head pressure. Keep looking for a doctor that can address the physical issues and perhaps the Tinnitus will resolve itself or at least become bearable. Good luck on this journey. Thoughts and prayers for you. Stay on this forum and seek reassurance and peace in this journey.

1 ReactionThank you so much for your response. I do have a therapist and great support. God's got it and maybe one day I will find silence and no migraines.
@guidanceplease keep us posted please , for now sending prayers for you -------------- sent. prayer groups have power in them as well as prayer chains as long as you have faith in prayer. have a blessed day
I understand the severity of it and the mental stress. I think it’s from my neck or maybe lower spine. Hearing aid but it just is different loud 24/7! Insurance advantage denied cervical surgery for other issues. Fell years ago but ringing severe one year! Exhausted!
