Treatment failure and hyaluronic acid?

Posted by rebecross @rebecross, Dec 13, 2023

I just read a post from the FAcebook BX group: a women found out about an unexpected Haemophilus influenzae, via a bronchoscopy, and the help the meds she was given helped her cough and mucus. I JUST saw my pulmo and was about to FIRE her for not looking further for help for my constant cough and mucus. FInally she pronounced me a rare, for her, azithromycin " treatment failure".
She had been refusing me a CT scan, and now suddenly I have one scheduled for tomorrow and a bronchoscopy in early January.
She pulled me off the zithro as well as the hypertonic saline nebs, admitting the pictures I sent her repeatedly of cups of frothy white mucus were a bit over the top. HA!
So here is another question: has anyone ever heard of hyaluronic acid supplements taken for aging skin being a mucus producer?
More will apparently be revealed.

@rebecross Wow! You led me down another rabbit hole with this question!
I went reading, and learned that there is ongoing research on the topic.
It appears, possibly, that hyaluronic acid (HA) helps thin and liquify mucus - some research has been done on both oral and inhaled versions for people with Cystic Fibrosis and certain types of asthma or bronchospasm.
Here is one article I found:
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33003557/
So perhaps your pulmo is on to something - maybe the combination of HA and saline was liquifying the mucus too much?
Can't wait to hear what you learn next.

I think I will skip my usual moisturizer this morning which contains that h. acid and use a different one and see what happens. I have tons of mucus relatively thin and frequent runny nose. Several years ago the dermatologist told me to use this moisturizer so I wonder if there is a connection. Time for my own little experiment! Interesting

I also have frothy white mucus in addition to regular mucus. Certainly not cups of it but enough to wonder. My pulmo does not seem to make anything of it but I know it means something. If you find out any reason for it please let us know.

I've used hyalauric acid on my face for over a year and notice no connection. I have little to no mucous anyway, unless I use the nebulizer. This is interesting!
