Preparing for bariatric surgery: timeline, etc.
Hi!
I will be starting the 12 week course soon and I was just wondering what the timeline was for others. From start of classes to surgery.
I am familiar with the appointments I will have to make but I am just interested in how long it took others to get from start of class to surgery consult and then to surgery. I know it probably varies a lot, but I just want a rough idea of my possible timeline.
Specifically I'm having it done at Rochester Mayo.

Welcome to Mayo Connect. Evaluation and required classes prior to surgery will vary based on the clinic / hospital you plan on having surgery at. At Mayo, it is a requirement prior to surgery. Other places may or may not have the same requirements.
If your clinic does not require, you may ask the surgeon about any additional pre-surgery education that is available. Also, would ask about any post-surgery support that will be available.
When and what type of surgery is scheduled?
Gastric bypass. I've done my evaluation and upper GI, blood tests are the
20th. We have discussed diet, I have a book/ manual. After surgery I have a
support class. I thought there was classes before surgery too
Hi @srbjess! I was on Wegovy, then pills, then Tripeptide and I still could not get down to a decent weight. I had altered my diet to yogurt with protein powder in the morning, meat and cheese for lunch or chicken salad sandwich and then my evening meal was meat veggies and fruit. I started all this 2 years ago. Because I had tried all that and my I had already given up a lot of stuff I did not need to do the 12-week program.
My surgery is scheduled for August 11. To say the least I am a bit scared. When I had my consult earlier this month the assistant to Dr. LaPlant answered all of my questions and made me feel very comfortable. I am having a hernia removed also. Things are moving along fast. I am preparing myself for the liquid diet 2 weeks before surgery. I got this and so do you! I hope that all goes well for both of us.
