Thoratic aorta root aneurism. Wake up with middle chest pressure?

Posted by krisinlincoln @krisinlincoln, Jul 26 10:28am

I was diagnosed with 4.7 cm aortic root aneurysm in April 2025. I have sleep apnea, but using the fitted mouth device, which has stopped my snoring. But wake up with middle chest pressure. Does anyone else have that symptom? I feel it actually all day.

I have the same diagnosis. I have sleep apnea and use a nasal pillow which sits under my nose. I have not experienced the pressure you mention.

Go to the emergency room right now. I would call 911.

When I had my aortic dissection in June 2015, it happened at about 120 in the morning and it felt like someone was standing on my back peeling the skin off. It was extraordinarily painful. I had had a whole host of symptoms prior to that which were strange and really out of the ordinary, but for which I couldn’t really understand or connected. I had trouble swallowing which occurred because the aortic aneurysm had enlarged so much that it was pressing against my esophagus and making it difficult to swallow. I’d also had the sense of buzzing inside my chest, right where my aorta comes out of my heart. It was like a giant bumblebee was inside there and buzzing. It woke me up out of a dead sleep. I also felt an impending sense of doom, even though I didn’t have any physical symptoms. I just felt as though something very terrible was about to happen to me. I suspect that when you start to have a dissection either your body releases certain hormones that causes you to Question your own existence or there’s some bio mechanical phenomenon that goes on as that aneurysm enlarges before it ultimately dissects. I think there’s a lot of different symptoms that you might have, but I do think it’s critically important that you see a doctor right away so you can get a CAT scan to see whether or not your aneurysm has enlarged. I am not a nervous Nelly and I would not run to the doctor for just anything, but I will tell you that knowing what I know now I would absolutely go straight to the emergency room if I felt what you were feeling given the size of your aneurysm. The 5.0 cm metric is really designed behind the average sized person. It’s possible if you’re on the smaller side that you may be a candidate for surgery at 4.7. Take it from someone who’s survived a dissection. You do not want this to happen suddenly to you because there’s a very high mortality rate. Don’t waste what you know about your condition by ignoring it.Peace and get it checked ASAP.

Thank you all , for responding. I wrote to my doctor and we’re considering the anxiety med and the metoprolol and their timing. My next MRI is November 6 months since diagnosis.
I am considering other possible causes as well, acid reflux or maybe symptoms from chronic kidney disease. These things are so complicated. And scary.

Sometimes at night I get odd sensations in my chest as well. One night I had a painful tearing sensation on the my left side. Got my attention. I got out bed and walk around and in a few minutes it went away. I think sometimes our head plays games because we are ultra focused on our conditions. I was diagnosed at 4.2cm back in 2009. I am now at 4.8. Have just been living my life not thinking about it.

Also, the metoprolol may take some getting used to. I have been on it for about 7 years. It helps to lower blood pressure but also lowers heart rate which can be problematic at times. My resting heart rate is about 55 and it is hard for me to get it above 100. At times my blood pressure dips to 95/55 so be careful while adjusting to med.

I was on it for years. I ended up taking it at night. My brother was having problems tolerating it also until he switched to taking it at night. You might want to try that.
