This and That and Talk - My Transplant

Posted by Rosemary, Volunteer Mentor @rosemarya, Apr 9, 2017

As our Mayo Connect community grows, I am constantly meeting organ transplant members on a wide variety of forums with a wide range of issues that are not directly transplant specific. However, because we are all transplant recipients, we have a special connection: a unique journey and best of all - a new life! We don't always need help or advice. Many times we just want to chat with someone like us! That is my purpose in starting This and That and Talk.

Drop in and say 'Hi'. You are welcome anytime.

What do you want t to talk about? What words can you offer to someone who is on the journey? Do you have any questions for another recipient?

@jolinda

This is such a scary situation! I am so glad you are ok now.

It was scary, and something we don't ever want to repeat. It has made me extra aware of listening to my body for any signs that are just not normal. I don't take any chances with my health, and I am fortunate to have a husband who supports me on that. We learned how quickly unexpected things can happen for us.

There was a real neat side of all of this.
-The ER staff remembered me from when they had sent me off to UK the previous year.
- I had the same EMT in the ambulance as I had the previous year when transported to ICU.
-When I was a patient in Mayo Methodist on 10-2, I was cared for by some of the same nurses that had cared for me pre transplant and post transplant. We had the opportunity of catch up: who got married, had a baby, etc.
-I had one beautiful afternoon to enjoy the rocking chairs at GOL.

taarthi, I am pleased that you are feeling better! I want you to remember that you do not have to go thru this alone. Mayo Connect is open 24/7.
I, too, enjoy reading all of the responses. I am a 9 year recipient, and I continue to learn and be inspired by what I read. This is a magnificent group of people who are all experts by experience!

Keep checking in, and don't hesitate to ask, ask, ask!
Please stay in touch, and updated on your experience.
Hugs.

JoDee, Your daughter learned an important lesson didn't she?

I tend to be cautious of highly scented products. For example there was a conversation on Connect sometime in the past where members were discussing their severe allergies - especially to scents.

@rosemarya she really did! I'm not allergic but u just don't like scented products. It's sensory overload. :p

I only use fragrance free and have for years. My daughter used some of her college roommate's laundry soap once and broke out and was itchy. She had to rewash all her clothes. Poor thing!

@jeanne5009 where would I find these sheets? On line?

@gaylea1 try Amazon. I believe I've seen them on there.

@gingerw no I haven't changed any soap or detergents. I lie straight out to sleep but the itching starts as soon as I lay down. Any covers seem to make the itching worse. Even pyjamas touching my skin can start the itch. I wear nightgown to keep my legs free. I only drink water so it's not that. I am just out of options. I can't wait for the surgery!

@gaylea1 I feel so badly for you! I can't imagine your frustration! I hope you find a solution.
Blessings,
JoDee

I do the same, @contentandwell. Fragrance free laundry products are the only ones I use. I can really notice a difference in my skin if I try to use something else.
