The Hysteroscopy diagnostic D & C

Posted by Goaway @nemo1, Jan 28, 2023

In 8/2022 I had bad cramping then slightly bled for about 2 weeks. I went to ER. Sonogram: bilateral ovarian cysts, fibroids, polyps and a thickened endometrium.

It took two months to see a gyn.

My endometrial biopsy shows simply hyperplasia.

My CA 125 11.8. Negative for cancer.

A bunch of other tests were negative.

I’m to have a hysteroscopy diagnostic d & c in a few days. My doctor told me to be sure no cancer I would need this procedure. If it shows something, I would need a hysterectomy.

I still get pains in lower left side that come and go.

She tried me on medroxyprogesterone. I did not react well to that so it was discontinued…

I have a history of endometriosis dx 2000. I stopped bleeding about 8-9 years ago.

I have other health issues that have been in the forefront. I need to deal with one thing at a time. I am nervous about this diagnostic D & C. I am diabetic and am worried I will bleed longer than I should. I’m essentially waiting for some shoes to drop here.

Has anyone had this procedure that you would not mind sharing experiences and thoughts? How do you feel post op? How long did it take for you to bounce back?

Thank you.

Ps the anesthesiologist said in another 48-72 hours they would reassess this…he did not want to blame the anesthesia. I was fine going in but coming out not good.

Hi
I am a 73 year old (obviously post menopausal) woman
I had a CT scan in Oct of 2021 to determine type of hernia pre surgery, the CT turned up a variety conditions that required a variety of diagnostic procedures, fortunately nothing serious- this is, however how I was diagnosed with thickened uterine lining and possible polyps and fibroids. I was subjected to what is called a “medical cascade”- what happens when an unrelated test shows up a whole bunch of other stuff, all of which have to be checked- this a whole other subject.
Any way, the diagnostic hysteroscopy and D&C were no big deal- I had general anesthesia, which I thought was overkill. I was up and out in a few hours. Slight spotting for a few days and no lasting issues , waited for 2 weeks for biopsy results which were negative.
Good Luck , you’ll be fine!
PS the femoral hernia robotic surgery was no big deal either.
The hospital experiences are another subject.
