The Chat Room: A place to talk about this and that

Posted by John, Volunteer Mentor @johnbishop, Oct 3, 2020

Have you discovered mutual likes or common points of interest with other members while talking about the medical stuff? Sometimes these discoveries take us off topic.

Welcome to The Chat Room.
This is a place to talk about this and that over the backyard fence so to speak. To invite a fellow member or members to the chat room, simply mention their @username. They will get an email to join the conversation here.

Who will you invite to chat?

Howdy doody Sunny,
I hope Hank answers your question but in the meantime I have a question for our esteemed and noble leader @colleenyoung.
Good afternoon Colleen I hope you’re feeling fine and dandy today, you probably were until you heard from me.
Admittedly my memory isn’t top notch however I thought we discussed that the search feature on connect was going to be modified so it would be more useful.
I haven’t noticed those modifications going into affect yet. Are those computer programmers slacking off or did the the enhanced search features just go by the wayside or do only moderators and such have access to them? Perhaps I imagined the whole thing. Well whatever the case may be
I am a positive sort of guy and have confidence that you will follow through and one day we will have advanced search features so we can all have access to older posts that we know we’ve made and or read about that may be of benefit now and in the future to new users so we can easily access information already posted without going through sometimes thousands of messages.
Thank you most sincerely,
Jake

Thx Hank. How do you find discussions you've been in or initiated? You seem to know how to find anything that you want about anything. The number of discussions are monumental and with my memory problems sometimes, it's overwhelming when I'm so behind and want to catch up. I know how to use the most recent or first or last in a sequence but that's not really what I mean. Also, is there a way to find just all of your discussions?

Hope you and Linda have a good Sunday. Sunnyflower

Hi there @sunnyflower....happy Sunday. I know that all of your posts are housed at the end of your Profile. So just click on your photo or symbol, open your profile and scroll down. Your posts are all there in newest to oldest format.

To @jakedduck1, @jesfactsmon, and all others anxious for advanced search capabilities, here is where we are right now. About one year ago, we recorded every recommended feature in our collective minds and based upon our experience on Connect. We paid particular attention to defining the recommendations in the following order of preference:

Need to have,
Nice to have,
Desirable to have.

As we gathered to anxiously await the new developments, we were hit with the realities of COVID-19. Financial commitments had to be reconsidered and revised based upon economic realities. Program development priorities were laid out and reviewed. I am sure @colleenyoung will fill you in as soon as work begins.

We appreciate your understanding and support.

May you be content and at peace
Chris (the one who will do a happy dance when the new features are introduced.)

I’m not a moderator or a mentor and obviously not privy to the same information that you are.
I wasn’t aware of what some of you collectively decided
you would,
Need to have,
Nice to have,
Desirable to have
Aso I assume your group decided there must be a lack of knowledge of Connect members to contribute. How am I supposed to know how this virus affected the Mayo Clinic computer programming division or whoever is in charge of making improvements or Mayo Clinic as a whole.
Perhaps an update would’ve been appropriate.
I am aware of how to look through posts.
You’re obviously not aware of how long it takes to scroll through thousands of messages and how time-consuming it is when you have to scroll down just through a few messages to the bottom of the page hit more or whatever it says then scroll down again hit more and on and on and on. Perhaps it would be nice if Mayo Clinic would inform members of works on the drawing board. Perhaps you don’t even want suggestions from members although that’s not the impression I’ve gotten from Colleen whom I have the greatest respect for.

And Chris, thank you, thank you, thank you for telling me where to find all of my posts! I bet someone is already told me that and I just forgot. I guess I must need to go there to see it for it to get into my brain. Which painfully to me has become painfully compromised from the pain and medications. Glad my rationale and logic are still intact! @jesfactsmon @colleenyoung @jakedduck1 Sunnyflower 😊

Okay, I went there and found all my posts. There are over five hundred of them! Wowzers! I think you guys are doing such a great job and I appreciate everything. I hate to admit it but I had trouble finding the connect home page but once I got there it was easy to get into my profile and find my messages. I had to click on someone's name which took me to their profile to be able to find my own profile but if there is an easier way to get to the connect home page that would be great! Like what I mean is from the emails since that's where I mostly am. Like an incoming new email. I clicked on the person who posted it it took me to their profile and then I got to mine from there but I was thinking there must be a much easier way. I did not want to have to go out into the web to type in mayo connect. Org. Maybe I'm just too lazy LOL! Have a good rest of your day and again, thank you from the bottom of my heart! Hey Leonard, I am with you about REALLY wanting to at least be able to access people's old posts more quickly and efficiently including my own of course.

I'm pretty sure it's not Chris's @artscaping job to keep us informed, and think about it, she's suffering ridiculously in pain just like you and so many others here. It's kind of a full time job just trying to maintain your composure in the face of that alone, let alone think of our frustrations with some functionality regarding Connect.

I guess we gotta just suck it up and be patient, I expect that the new feature is coming at some point. I certainly look forward to it and I know @colleenyoung will let us know when it gets here. Colleen, please keep us updated on this. Thanks much! Best, Hank

Hi Sunny, it just so happens that I just told another user how to get to their profile. Here is what I told them:

First go to the TOP of any page in Connect. Then just to the Right of the small envelope symbol and just to the LEFT of the button that says "Appointment" you will see a round button. Click that and then click "My Profile".

That takes you to your profile. You can do this from any Connect page. Best, Hank

Hi there @sunnyflower, there is an easier way to get to your profile from anywhere on the platform. Any time you go to post on someone's page, you will notice that once you go there.....and prepare to respond.....your picture is in the upper right.....next to the word Appointment......not theirs. So even though I am responding to you in the middle of the discussion, I can go to my own profile immediately.

And then, I can get to you from somewhere else on the platform simply by clicking on the box that says "Enter keywords here". entering Sunnyflower, clicking in the magnifying glass at the right, and there you are. Try it. If it doesn't work...I will try a better way to explain it.

Have fun.....don't get frustrated.

Be content and at ease....
Chris
