I am concerned about my possible exposure to mesothelioma. I am 76. Will I outlive any possible effects of diseases connected to asbestos.

@davidsmith76 Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect!
Here is an article from Mayo Clinic about mesothelioma, and several risk factors are listed. Do you feel you are exhibiting any of these? Have you sought out the advice of your primary care doctor, yet?

My doctor told me that a man of my age(76) should not have any concerns about mesothelioma

I mean what I wrote. I do not even know what rescripting means. So far I have done two exercises. These exercises consist of answering the questions posed to me by my therapist. There will be more. She indicated that she sees some improvement in me. Talking on the phone with my neighbor, she said the same thing. Can't see it on myself.

rescripting means to rewrite something. synonyms: revising, rewriting. editing that involves writing something again.
Hope that helps. It is no problem to help a person when they need something broken down into easier ways to understand things. I do it for myself often. I enjoy reading. When I come across a new word I don't know, I look it up & write it down so I can use it later or at least understand it if someone else uses it. I create my own personal dictionary. I am glad you are doing better with your speech & understanding. I encourage you to ask away whenever a word or phrase confuses you. I do that with my friend. We also will use new words we find on each other trying to stump each other. It's how we two old brains stretch our thinking. Keep up your brain stretches! You're getting stronger I can tell.

Can fluid from brain/drip cause throat irritation or cause a constant hack-phlegm cough?

Welcome @hanelbow, I don't have an answer for you but Mayo Clinic has some information here that may be helpful:
-- CSF leak (Cerebrospinal fluid leak):
https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/csf-leak/symptoms-causes/syc-20522246

There is also a discussion that you might want to read what others have shared on CSF leaks.
-- Spinal CSF leaks: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/spinal-csf-leaks/

Have you discussed the symptoms you are having with your doctor?

Hi
My name is Eileen Luna. I'm so distraught right now. I been crying on and off cuz my PCP is retiring soon on May 1,2023. She's been my doctor for 10 years. She was my motivation factor for me to be involved with my diabetes care. She would always order tests like my A1c level and my BMP test. She even got me to do CGM for my diabetes care and I change my diet around cuz she helped me to get well and to keep on going to keep my blood sugar levels on par. Now I'll be having my last labs and my last A1c level and BMP test with her on February 10,2023. I'll never find another Doctor like Dr.Mary Ellen Behmer at Metrohealth System anymore

I just joined Mayo Clinic Connect and thought maybe you can direct me to where I can read about someone else with my problem, it is hard to believe it, but most of the people on here suffer from so many multiple aliments, that mine is "NOTHING" compared to that, but still for 17 years I have been gradually getting worse, and NONE of the Drs around here "The Villages" in Lady Lake, Fla. know! Anyway I am a 69 year old male and have had every single diagnostic test to no avail.....I feel like a teenager and have NO aliments like Diabetes, Thyroid problems, High Blood Pressure, etc. There is NO Pain involved but my legs are "DEAD" and I drag myself around with a cane to hold me up. It must be a meager thing! At 69, I am also as sharp as a tack. Will Mayo know? Thanks..James S. London

@jimlondon1 Hello Jim, and welcome to Connect. What I might suggest is to read about spine issues in the Spine Group. You can have stenosis or narrowing of the spinal canal without pain which can affect walking and cause weakness. I am a spine surgery patient for stenosis that happened in my neck, years later, as a result of a whiplash. I also had some issues with walking and weakness not just in legs, but in my arms as well.

Have you been examined by a neurologist? That might be a first step to diagnose a spine problem. If you do have central canal stenosis, one of the lesser involved surgeries that might treat it may be a laminectomy. My 80-year-old cousin had this and was pretty active again 2 weeks later and doing long walks. It can be diagnosed with imaging such as an MRI.

You can find a lot of discussions that mention stenosis if you use the search function at the top of the screen.

@rosechili1950 It is understandable in trying to seek out a new PCP, but my first thought can your trusted physician give you some recommendations for a new physician that you could reach out to as a new patient?

Dear Eileen, I can really understand your feelings! My PCP of 20+ years has just left Family Practice to preserve her own health. We were equally sad to say goodbye to one another as she has seen my daughters and me through many medical crises, surgeries and life changes. She carefully considered each of our medical and mental health needs, and made a recommendation to each of us for a new provider. Two of us have to change clinic locations for this, but I am willing to do it for good care. So far my younger daughter has found her new provider very compassionate and helpful, and felt like she was really listening. I will meet mine for the first time in May, but have already spoken to her nurse and got a really good feeling about their concern for the patient.

So there is hope - can you reach out to her before or at your appointment to ask her for a recommendation?
Good luck finding a new and caring provider.
Sue
