My husband is participating in Michael Fox research. Testing has included DAT scan, and lumbar puncture to look for alpha-synuclein among others. A person can have PD precursors and not have the disease for many years apparently. I would think a specialist can make the diagnosis, whereas general practitioners may do less well.
