I hesitate to chime in on this discussion, but I lost my sense of small for 10 years (I always assumed it was because of my allergies). Then a few months ago I noticed it had come back - which was after I had a difficult time with COVID. Go figure!

Please chime in! What happened ten years ago? I’m desperately trying to find answers and maybe some help. I have smell/taste loss, but also constant bitter taste. Who did you see?

I didn’t see a doctor. . I don’t know what caused it but I assumed it was my allergies or just old age (but I was only 57 at the time). For a while I was overreacting to smells and then I just seemed to lose my sense of smell. And then after I had a Covid this past November I noticed I had my sense of smell back. I don’t know if it’s related to Covid or coincidence. I never completely lost my sense of taste though.

That’s interesting. Were you going through any undue stress or anxiety? I was, but I also had covid, and fast major intentional weight loss, that caused hair shedding. Since, diagnosed by dermatologist as telegen effluvium . Plus, I had Vitamin B12 deficiency. A lot was going on, that has since been resolved. But, this taste/smell issue remains:(

I never thought about it but I was having chronic sinus infections which then caused my asthma so I was living on antibiotics and prednisine. That may have been what caused my loss of smell. . But when I eliminated dairy from my diet I wasn’t getting as many sinus infections so then I didn’t need all the antibiotics and prednisone. But I made that change in my diet 5 years ago and I just now got my sense of smell back so I can’t really attribute getting my sense of smell back to anything.
